Deadspin is pretty misleading. ESPN didn't create their own story, it was really just a simple case of an opinion being stated and it being discussed in the ESPN echo chamber. Stuff like this happens all the time and isn't a big deal, IMO. Sports talk is an opinion driven business. Nothing unusual about this. Russell Wilson has been asked a ton of softball questions of a similar nature (people think you are awesome, etc), and he always downplays it. I'm guessing the same is true for RG3 and Luck as well.

Dude, When local affiliate stations start picking it up and pronouncing it as news, its borderline asinine. The original opinion piece was fine from Jaws. The ensuing reactions as if it was actual news is what makes it ridiculous.

And they did create their own story. By turning Jaws (who works for ESPN) into a story that had to be repeated, debated, analyzed, promoted, and later, seen almost as fact.

I wish ESPN would remove the yankees, red sox, jets, and Tebow from their reverb chambers. If I never hear about those things again, I will still die having heard too much.

That's how media mind control is done. That's how almost everyone who regularly watched Fox News came to believe that Iraq had WMD's.

I can understand not being bugged by it, or thinking it's not a big deal. But they did absolutely create their own story. Whether deadspin can be misleading or not. That's like you creating one of your writeups then later saying you didn't create the writeup.

They do this all the time, especially on their radio shows and Mike & Mike are the best (worst) at it.

They start out by proclaiming some non existent public opinion then going off on it with feigned outragewhich goes something like: "i can't believe people are saying that x about y! That is the stupidest thing i have ever heard!"

Then they spend the next 20 minutes tearing in to this invented topic trying to get listeners to identify with them and to be upset about a fabricated injustice. Sometimes it is so blatant that it makes me laugh and i think that at least once in a while, these guys have to be embarrassed about their dishonesty.

Spot on Kearly.

I did sports radio for 10 years, and did so in a manner that most would describe as VERY unconventional (put mildly). To management, it didn't matter if I twisted or even fabricated facts or stats...as long as I kept the phones ringing.

Advertising and ratings will always supersede facts and truth. Just see it as entertainment. Turn the channel if you're not entertained, or.....easily offended. ; )
