Darnold stared down his guys on both of his picks. He's a damn hero today, but it doesn't mean we need to lie to ourselves about what he did.

And his last two scoring throws were both successful precisely because he looked defenders off.
This x1000. I'd even go so far as to say he is telegraphing where he is going on those plays that have been picked. I think he needs to learn how to just slow the F down and develop a poker face. I swear the dude communicates what seems like too much presnap. Hes going a million miles an hour. Whenever you would watch guys like Brady, Burrow... Rodgers Stafford... They all have a way of maintaining a calm affect as they survey the defense. Their eyes move slowly, but deliberately with no one glance as a tell as to what they are seeing or where they are going. As a matter of fact, they often 'telegraph' a look or read to where they dont want to go to push the D that way.

Sam is a jitterbug at the line and I am virtually sure there is something telling in how he is reading coverage and selecting routes with his eyes that key defenses in. Then. When his clock is sped up, he tips his hand and the D gets the jump, it ends poorly.

Bro needs to slowwwww dowwwnnnn in HOW he makes his initial reads and do so 'flat faced', calmly, and without telgraphing his decisions.

Seems to be a predetermination issue, but gotta give credit to Shula for tricking him as well. Who would have thought they would drop a NT into zone. That's a MM move that Shula copied.

That's what I think. Yup.
But yeah. The goal line pick was a good play... The troubling thing is that the target he was trying to hit (jSN) wasn't even open.

Yeah don't know if it's fixable. Might have to take the good with the bad.

I'm just glad he didn't crumble, and was able to come through clutch at the end, against this Rams team.

The Rams are wayyyy better than us. Maybe so, BUT that isn't what the scoreboard or the season standings said at the end of the game. However in total the Hawks are just 1 point behind those Wayyyy Better Rams head to head according to the scores in their two games against each other.

Believe what you want but I believe the Hawks have now show they are #1 team in the NFC., so suck it on the Wayyyy Better BS

True. In a literal sense.

But I think if Darnold continues to help this team win games more than lose them, he'll be around for awhile.
I don't disagree on this, but
Yeah. If you read my overview of the game (i think you did), you saw how I saw that 2nd pick as NY Jets'ish Sam Darnold.

That was UGLY with a capital UGLY.

It was like he was going to throw it there no matter what.

Pre-determined passes are the bane of Sam's existence and I really hate them.
So argue against me then point out how right I am.......

Merry Christmas

When two titans meet, this is what it looks like. It's nice to be on the winning side of an ugly effort, instead of the losing side of a pretty effort. Our two games were flip flopped in that regard.

I still have hope for Sam. I think we forget that he is almost a decade younger than Stafford, and has almost a decade less experience (probably a feature of Sam looking old for his age and Stafford looking young for his).

Clearly the game hasn't yet slowed down for him like it has for the older QB's who have been there before, especially in the big games. If he keeps winning despite his limitations, he will buy himself time to develop the comfort with the game that the grizzled old vets have.

Did you mention the Pre-determined passes?

'Cause that's what I was focusing on.

If the Hawks win they're awful no matter that they won, If the Rams win of course they are the greatest ever, but id they lose they are wayyyy better than the Hawks.

Whatever? Frankly this is a ridiculous thread.

"NY Jets'ish Sam Darnold."
He is not old so drop the ld. That leaves us with DARNO. And that is how I will refer to him from now on. Some time ago, prior to us parting ways with Geno, in a comparison of Darno to Geno I opined that it was a near wash. But at that time I gave the edge to Geno. Now that I have seen Darno play a number of games for us I believe he has the capacity to successfully make plays that Geno would choke on. But I have also seen that he habitually chokes in similar situations that became a habit for Geno to choke on. So, Darno it is. Count me amoung the "but" crowd until we PROVE that we have solved the turnover issues.

I know what you were going for (not wanting the "old" part in his name) but I prefer Sam or Sammy D (and in the Rams case, Sammy D'eez nuts in your mouth, McVay!).

He's not GeNOPE, though. (I would never insult him like that) 🙃

He doesn't throw it when not under pressure

I can't believe this disucssion

He has played like garbage for 7 out of 8 quarters against the Rams and most of the last four games

Yeah. I can't believe this discussion either.

You're set in your beliefs so I shouldn't be wasting my time.

My bad.

Have a nice evening.

If I was a Rams fan, I would be very nervous.
The Rams are more balanced. But we match up with them well.
Our defense stymies their great offense. And our offense might be enough to beat them - especially because you can run all over the Rams. So our weakness (RB) is lessened against them.
The Rams special teams is also a BIG weakness for them. This likely won't change.

In our first game against them,
- Our defense completely shut down their offense - in their house.
- Stafford was held to one of his lows, and 2 of their scores were the result of needing to go for it on 4th down.
- Darnold threw 4 picks and even so, it comes down to a makeable (but tough) FG that we missed.
- Otherwise we win that one. And they had both their WRs.

We barely lose, by a missed but makeable (tough but makeable) FG.

The next game,
- Rams seem to run on us - but struggle in the Red Zone (and yes that penalty was correctly called).
- Stafford has the game of his life, probably the best game he will EVER have against us.
- They get 2 picks on Darnold and Kupp fumbles on another play that was likely to be a scoring drive.
- Our defense doesn't even force a turnover (like they usually do).
- Our starting CB and 1 starting safety are out injured halfway through (our best player)
- Our starting LT is out

We win. In OT.

So what happens if Darnold just stops submarining the team and throws only 1 pick?
Do you think Stafford throws for 500 on us again? Unlikely.

Stafford's best wasn't enough to beat us. And frankly, Darnold's worst almost wasn't enough.
Our defense probably won't be as good as in Game 1, but likely much better than in Game 2.
We will likely force at least one turnover. Hopefully we throw 1 less INT. That would probably be enough. Especially if we can continue the trend of not allowing 4th down conversions like in Game 2, instead of what happened in Game 1.

The Rams might be 'better' (and I think they are because of the QB), but we match up extremely well with them. I honestly like our chances if there is a Game 3.

Twisted Husky, This above is a great post!

The Rams are a good team without a doubt, but they sure are not Wayyyy better. For sure they may be better, b/c of Stafford. As well I’m not buying the BS analysis of Darnold either. He’s growing as we watch and certainly he is far from perfect but each one of these messy Ws causes him to come back better than before.

This team can do great things!
