I never dreamed we'd have a real shot at JSN. I was in rehab on draft day, and a friend (Lions fan) and I wrote on a white board in the TV room our top options for our first-round picks (we had #5 & #20, Lions had #6 & #18). I was holding onto delusions that Will Levis would be highly-regarded enough where QBs would go #1-#4 and we'd get to steal Will Anderson Jr at #5. Well, of course the stupid Cards had to trade their top 4 pick to a team that didn't need a QB. Anyway, I wrote that if that didn't happen, I wanted to either make the gamble on Jalen Carter or make a "slight reach" for JSN, who I was convinced could go as high as Atlanta at #8 and had an absolute floor of Green Bay at #13. Teams kept passing and I was like "omg omg this might actually happen". Then that girl goes "Jaxon Njigba" and I just lost it. That had to be the most excited I've been for a pick since we took Shawn Springs back in '97.
I didn't even have JSN listed on my top three options for #20 because I assumed he'd be long gone. I forget who I had at 2 and 3, but I remember my #1 guy was Florida OG O'Cyrus Torrence, who even made it past our second rounder and to the Bills at #59, so shows what I know.
It was the tenth time since I started following the Seahawks in the mid-90s that we took the #1 player available that I wanted when the pick came up, and just the fourth time it happened in the first round.
