This was posted on Reddit and i wanted to share it because its a very good non emotional post on the state of the team and I figured it would be a good discussion starter. It was shared by “Imightbenew2day”

An unemotional look at the Seahawks six games in, and where I think we'll go from here.

First off, the last 3 games have been miserable. I know we were riding a high from some weak competition, but we've come back down to earth hard. Here's my analysis of some big talking points currently, and I'd really love to hear other people's opinions on my points.

-Coach Mcdonald and specifically the Defence

What a quick come down for this unit. I do take into account the injuries, but the pass rush has been near non existent. I believe Purdy was near the top in the league for being sacked, this 49er line has been sloppy at best to start the season, and his jersey looked very clean by the end of the night. The Seahawks simply lack any type of dynamic pass rushers, and I really think it's hard to constantly scheme pressure and have no organic pressure created by your edges. Losing Nwosu is devastating, and even with Byron Murphy returning I can't see a massive leap forward. The linebacker Corp Just lacks any type of high end talent. The back end is pretty beat up, so it's hard to give a decent grade, but at all 3 levels the tackling has regressed to Pete Carroll 2022 level. I'm not sure what that is attributed to, but first couple games this team was solo tackling consistently so it is there in some capacity. We've seen this defence be at times dynamic in scheme, solid at the point of attack, and better on 3rd down than in Carroll's last few years, so it's not all gloom and doom. I actually believe the problem here to be more attributed to Schneider, which I'll address later.

-Offense and Grubb

Optimistically, I see something here. While I am not a Geno believer (nor hater, I think he's a mid tier qb) Grubb has put him in a decent position to have success. Penalties and bad line play have really hampered the play call balance. The route trees have been better for guys like Njigba to start to produce, and I think the lack of production in the running game is more a symptom of the line than play call/scheme. There are a couple of usable pieces on this line, but there are some real bad eggs in this batch. In order for your left tackle to be rated so high by PFF and your overall line to be ranked close to 30, there's some serious problems. I don't think this is coaching, I think some of these guys just aren't starting caliber players. DK Metcalf has produced well this season, and I actually think he's had some bad breaks. Ball security is a fixable problem, and while I've always thought of him as one tier below the "elite" group of wideouts, he's about 5 missed opportunities this year from being in that conversation. The DK criticism is fair, but can go a little overboard. People are going to hate this... but I'd move Locket. He's still got a little gas in the tank, but his cap hit next year is not worth the production especially if you want to pay DK in the future. I believe you might get a late 3rd/early 4th for him, and we really need every pick we can get. Speaking of picks...

John Schneider and the Front Office-

Here is where I seat a ton of the blame. The biggest thing that is painfully obvious with this team is there is almost zero depth at any position outside of WR and RB. This offensive line is one of the lowest paid in the NFL and the play is a direct reflection of it. Our absolute refusal to sign any marquee lineman during free agency was detrimental during Carroll's time here and is rearing its ugly head early in this season as well. The fact that we don't even have rotational guys that come in for specialist pass rushing downs in this era of the NFL is inexcusable. Guys like Yannick Ngakoue, proven situational pass rushers, are sitting on the Ravens practice squad until last week and gets brought up to have a great game. He would have been here on the vet minimum in a heartbeat, but we aren't willing to take those risk, or some other unknown reason. We make absolutely no moves to try and set Mcdonald up for success with guys he thinks would be a good fit for his schemes, so I think it's hard to judge him to harsh.

All in all, I think we are where we should be record wise. I expected 9-8 at the best, just based on talent and new schemes on both sides of the ball. Mcdonald and Grubb have shown flashes, and hopefully they can find consistency as they get more comfortable. It was a stretch to expect the playoffs this season, let alone a Super Bowl. I am however majorly concerned over out lack of depth, as well as some serious lack of talent at some of the positions.

Thoughts?

We're really bad overall...

We have the makings of a great offense, literally one or two players from being near elite.

We have a few pieces on defense, but overall it's a shit show!

We're not good enough to go anywhere with what we have, nor are we bad enough to get a decent draft pick...

I agree with most of his points as well. I still think they flirt with the playoffs but still a ways to go before we’re competing with the Niners.

Yeah I’m starting to trend that way. His drafting has improved but the FA signings have been bad. They did get Lucas and Cross but definitely need to do more and fast or this team will never improve

I agree with you mostly, except with Metcalf. DK just can't get it done unless he is wide open. He fails to high point the ball, he doesn't come back and fight for the ball he just sits there and waits for it to come down. He is body catching way too much, he is consistenly showing us why AJ Brown got all of the targets at Ole Miss. I desperately wanted Seattle to draft him and have been a huge supporter. I really thought this would be the year he takes the leap to become a serious problem for defenses. But at this point I would like to know what we can get for him on the trade market.

How things change as do perspectives.

Am still of the belief this team could win 11 games this year.

let’s see how they do against Buffalo.
Yeah I couldn’t guess how many wins we will get. Depends on which team shows up. But buffalo will definitely be a good test, we win that game and I will be pretty excited.

A few random thoughts:
  1. We didn't draft from 2017 -2021, resulting in we have one tradeable veteran in DK Metcalf and a lack of depth across the board. Let's say the poor drafting was 50/50 Pete and John?
  2. Hawks 2024 is better than '23 or '22.
  3. I have more faith in Macdonald than Grubb. Macdonald inherited a poor defense, he is making it work. Grubb inherited a decent offense, I haven't seen much improvement.
We will kick Bills' butt this weekend.

All the talk here is that Cooper just made Buffalo a Super Bowl team. I don't buy it. They are as hot and cold as the Seahawks. They have issues in the first half to get going and are like the Hawks in many ways. On paper, they are a beast but with wins over The Cards, Dolphins, Jets and Titans I do not buy into their hype. Losses came from Ravens and Texans. We can take them.

I’ve come around to this as well. It’s a fun year because anywhere from 7-11 wins wouldn’t shock me but I’m optimistic for the high end. The line getting healthier only helps Geno and the offense and Murphy being back and hopefully Woolen as well will make a difference

I'm somewhat, sorta, kinda interested in Maxx Crosby for the Hawks. He's kinda perfect for us. He's just turned 27, has got 3-4 strong years in front of him, reasonable contract...I'd inquire.
