There's always a couple plays per game where he doesn't finish blocks. He just kind of gets in the guy's way.
I think Coleman stinks.

I don't think he stinks. He's obviously doing some things right...but I do notice when he whiffs on some blocks

Sure didn't look like a terrible blocker on Marshawn's TD on 4th down. GREAT block.

There is adequate proof that Coleman can do the job. Like I said, I like his talents. They just aren't showing all that often.

Yeah, I really miss Mike Rob. But clearly, whatever he had or still has is preventing him from playing because I'm sure someone would have signed him already if he was able to go.

He didn't look sick on NFL network a week after Seattle released him. I think it has a lot more to do with his age (30) and the devaluation of the fullback position in recent years. He's also not your run of the mill fullback.

I think it's very interesting that Seattle didn't even attempt a paycut with Mike Rob. They just ditched him flat out, despite Coleman showing warning signs in the preseason. And he's still not back. Not the FO's finest hour, IMO.

If they're committed to developing Coleman, then I guess we just have to breathe deep and accept some spotty running plays for a while. We run great out of single-back sets anyway, so it shouldn't be a roadblock to a running game.

Not sure it's fair to expect anything more from a 2nd year undrafted free agent at this point, a converted RB to FB at that. My guess is Pete and John fully expected Robinson to play another year at a high level, but their hand was forced when Robinson showed up to camp with an illness.

Besides, how many snaps does Coleman actually play now that Russell is pretty much in the shotgun every snap? Short yardage is about it isn't it? Not really enough to get all worked up about.

Well he's still a free agent, so that tells you Robinson's still has some issues going on. If EVERY team in the NFL is still passing on him, something's going on.

I didn't watch Coleman super close, but he's made massive progress since August / September. I think the bigger issue now is getting Lynch to trust him. Coleman had one block where he drove his assignment completely out of the hole, maybe 6 or so yards of movement. It did take him a moment to get going, and Lynch didn't trust him so he didn't follow the assignment. It would have been a big gain if he had. Instead, it went for a loss.

I agree and actually rewound that play right after it happened because I wasn't sure I saw it right live. Lynch clearly doesn't trust Coleman yet because he pulled up and ran into the backside of a lineman rather than follow Coleman into the gap. If he'd followed Coleman it looked like nothing but daylight...then again, that's the first time I remember seeing Coleman get a really solid block like that. Hopefully Coleman continues to improve and Lynch begins to trust him.

I think you have your cause and effect a little mixed up. If Coleman were better, perhaps Wilson would be in the gun a bit less. We need I formation, it's a big part of the play action/heavy sets part of our game.

Not a lot of FBs being signed anywhere, and Mike Rob is 30 and was released at final cuts. A lot of decent players have a hard time catching on if they're cut late. Illness could be the issue, but there are other factors that could also explain why he's still a free agent.

Some of you need to better manage your expectations. This is Coleman's first full season as a fullback. He was a RB at UCLA and barely in the league last year as an undrafted rookie, bouncing around before landing on the Seahawks' PS very late in the season. He's still learning the nuances of fullback play and the finer points of lead blocking, all while playing as a legally deaf person. Fullbacks can and do get developed as lead blockers over the course of their NFL careers. Cases in point - Michael Robinson (college QB), Mack Strong (college backup RB), Leonard Weaver (small college TE), Marcel Reese (college WR), Vonta Leach (LB until Jr. year in college), and so on.

For some reason he kind of reminds me of Heath Evans. I am not impressed at all so far.

The play Kearly was talking about, very early in the game if I am thinking of the same one, showed how it is not working. The play was to go off of left tackle. Coleman leads the way, slowly, but takes the guy to the right and downfield. Lynch is following him but the block takes too long, and instead of staying with him Lynch goes to the right behind center and is met by a wall for a loss of about two. Coleman just was not explosive enough for Lynch.
