THIS, is the #1 thing I want to see this year -- Carp healthy enough to play at least close to his envisioned potential. Because the other #1 thing I want to see this year is Russell having a more comfortable pocket, something a healthy Carp would help provide.

Somebody at PFT sucks at math. Possibly at life, too. 2010 draft + 2 years =/= 2013.

I don't see Carpenter having a significant impact on this team or any other quite frankly. Bad luck, unfortunately. This guy is a beast but he can't stay healthy enough to do a job. Luckily for him and his family, he's already received a nice initial contract, but he's done IMO. Not a miss for PC & Co. per se, just unfortunate circumstance. IMHO, if he contributes anything at this point it'll be partial pay-back. I would love to be proven wrong...

another #1 thing would be an even more successful run game

This thread makes it sound more major than it really is. He just had a knee scope to remove remaining tissue from the previous surgery. PC said he should be ready by TC.

No, this thread sounds like Carp has contributed little or nothing during his tenure here. Love to see some extended contribution from him; doubtful at this point.

I think Carp just needs to heal up and work on losing the excess weight that would help his knee and his game. What the last two drafts have shown is they are looking for the quick/hard hitting athletic type lineman with them trying to convert two DT's to interior o-lineman. But i still think Carp has the potential to be a beast on the left side next to Okung. But it all depends on his health and the shape he's in.

This is a normal procedure and nothing to be concerned about.

But if he injures another knee we may have to flip the two middle letters of his name.

Were you also one of those "Okung is a bust because he can't stay healthy" folks during the 2010 and 2011 seasons?

Thing about Carp is he was totally healthy his whole college career and never missed a game to injury until his rookie year, since then he's just not been able to recover from blowing up his knee. For a massive guy like him that can be a slow process.

When he plays he's a dominant LG and may eventually be an average RT. He's very strong and may be the strongest guy on the team, although if he can't get healthy and stay healthy it means very little. I think the team has their fingers crossed for him to return but have already hedged that not happening.

From everything I have read He has been working his ass off all winter trying to get strong and Healthy. This is part of the process. At the pre-camp evaluations they said he had ROM/flexibility issues so I can only presume this is part of the plan to improve those areas. Would love to see this guy play up to the expectations.

The problem is surgery is surgery. A scope is a scope. Anyone who thinks surgery is ever minor needs to be in a OR or a day surgery facility. Once you have to place any object inside a body cavity to perform a procedure you cause collateral trauma. This is not always extensive and bad, but with repeated procedures your chance of scare tissue and early set arthritis increases. If he is ready for TC does it really matter? In the short term maybe not, but in the long term it does come into play. We are talking about a mountain of a person who already puts stress on his knees with everyday life and work because of his job and size. Add into that cumulative surgeries and you start to have issues.

This is a minor procedure that was planned from the beginning. Not a big deal.

And he has three months to heal before the start of the season. It is a small procedure and whatever collateral trauma occurs will heal long before the end of those three months.

Not saying he will be 100% what he could have been before his knee gave out, but I think he'll be a productive player for us this season.
