Scottie tried with his "still kinda weak to the run up the middle" post, but that isn't working.

We're looking at top 5 on both sides of the ball IMO, and are very multi dimensional on both sides of the ball. The return game is still good, Haushka is consistent enough where it matters, we have a solid punter and there is still a long snapper on the roster.

The only "holes" I see to fill are Leroy Hills spot and nickel CB and the guys we have on the roster for those roles aren't bad either. We have 9? draft picks to address depth at DL and OL.

Obviously our DL will need help again next year with the short-term deal for Bennett and Avril, but that's where the draft ought to come in.

This team is shaping up in ridiculous fashion. What am I missing? I've never seen the Seahawks field a team like this with quality starters at EVERY POSITION and potential top 5 guys at each of the skill positions on the offensive side of the ball.

We could send a dozen guys to the pro bowl / all pro teams if everyone plays to their potential.

Please burst my bubble so I can sleep tonight.

The talent level & coaching look fantastic. That does not necessarily mean they will win the division, Super Bowl, or anything.

There have been tons of very talented teams in sports that don't win a Championship. They need to stay healthy and have good fortune next season.

Look at the 2007 Pats. They won 18 straight games and nobody thought they could be beaten, then they lost to the Giants.

What the Hawks have done so far is fantastic but it's still only March. It's a long, long way until next year's playoffs.

I would agree the Hawks will certainly be a playoff team, but then it gets really hard at that point. There are other good teams and QBs in the NFC.

Well for starters we need to either sign a kicker or resign Hauska.
We need to figure out what we're doing with Alan Branch's spot.
Hope Red Bryant is healthy.
Not too concerned about Hill. I like our LBers and our FO is great at drafting them.
Carp came of PUP. Will he improve? I'm an optimist.
How does Sweeny develop? Can Moffit fix his nagging injuries?

Im banking on shoring up in the draft and young players improving, so i like what we have going into camp.

Hauschka is a free agent. So there.

haha I was going to say the same thing:

We have a huge hole at kicker right now.
It's because we won't carry a K this year. No need for a K when you score TDs on every drive and you get successful 2 pt conversions

In that case, we can also free up a roster spot by cutting Jon Ryan.

Gotta play the games.

Definitely the best paper team the Hawks have ever fielded though (even if we got nothing out of the draft). Feels kind of weird to have a Seattle team be the talk of the nation, no? Media didn't give the Hawks half this much love during the '06 SB run. Being compared to the Red Sox/Yankees (of old)? This is just crazy. Loving it.

Level headed train of though Jonrud. Winning in March dosn't always translate to winning in January and Feburary.

We have built a monster but we also have to remember how extrememly lucky we were with injuroes last year. The chances we go another full season not losing a single starter due to injury for an extended period of time is very low. We have built great depth and a team that can make up for some weakness but we still have to hope our key players healthy.

Sure I'll give it a go.

The currency of success in the NFC West is toughness. This division is marked by it's physicality. It's a trait I personally believe in 100%. You can have all the finesse/fancy schemes you want but in the end this game is about physically punishing the other team until it can't resist.

I loved the Harvin move because above the dynamic playmaker ability, he is quite possibly the toughest WR in the league.

Avril is a flowers and unicorns DE. In terms of ability to play the run, our corners are better at it than he is. He is Charmin soft. Not a great fit for what this division is all about. I expect to see SF giggle like girls when they see him lined up on the other side and scheme a slot WR to single block assignment. I'm guessing the pancake odds are 50-50.

Michael Bennett is a better signing. Not necessarily at the 3. But his ability to play DE on base would be a plus.

Ultimately, San Francisco is leading the charge as the most physical team in the division. As much as we liked spanking them at the Clink, the fact is they had all the pressure, and they had the target on their chest all year -- and they overcame that AND beat us last year overall. We had virtually no expectations and certainly secured some wins that were very close to losses. I don't think for a second that the common opponents for us played us with equal aplomb. I think we've closed the gap considerably. But San Fransisco is still the class of the division when it comes to bringing the physicality. We have NOT closed that gap. And these moves haven't done that in my mind either.

This year, we're going to get every teams' best efforts. It's the next evolution in becoming a champion. Meeting expectations. San Francisco had them and met them. We didn't have any and now have to take that next evolution.

Oh and anything can happen when players think they are locks for the Superbowl, all this attention could get to some of these guys heads. I don't think our guys are that type but these things happen. I hope out guys don't think it will come easy, we will be hype and have that target on our chest this year.

Teams are not always on an upward trajectory. We may well end up no better than we were last year while some other team has the year of its life like we did in 2012.

You must have been watching a different Seattle team than I did last year. From a penalty-inducing block by diminutive Golden Tate to Kam to our big physical safeties to our #2 ranked run blocking to Marshawn Lynch's yards after contact to the demolishing of SF at the end of the season, I can't really buy the argument SF is tougher. If I had to make a list of why SF finished a half game ahead of us last year, "toughness" wouldn't be be on it. It would begin with starting a rookie QB (or, perhaps more to the point, Carroll hamstringing our rookie QB to start the season) followed by defensive play calling at the ends of games. I'm pretty sure you don't get the #1 scoring defense from any dearth of toughness. Toughness was not a difference maker last season.

I won't burst your bubble, but I will temper the excitement with one simple fact.............this is the NFL, where A LOT of stars have to align for a team to go all the way to the Superbowl and win.

Things like injuries, players playing up to their potential (or above), schedule, playing teams at the right time, playoff seeding, etc etc. All these things are vital.

Also for everyone getting jacked over the Bennett and Avril signings, remember that we lost Jones and have no idea when Clemons is coming back. So theoretically we lost two good DE's, and got two back. So for at least now that's just a wash depending on how the new guys perform.

Thirdly we now play in the toughest division. So we could conceivably win 12-13 games AND STILL not win our division. Which means another three straight road games to the Superbowl.

Anyway, get excited.........get very excited. But still a lot of things have to go right.

1995 Cleveland Browns, head coach Bill Belicheck, favorite to win the Superbowl. In 1994 they went 11-5-0 (Like our Seahawks)

Scored 340 points (21.2/g), 11th of 28 in the NFL.
Allowed 204 points (12.8/g), 1st.
Differential of 136 points (8.5/g), 3rd
Expected 1995 W-L: 12.3-3.7

Actual 1995 5-11-0!

http://www.pro-football-reference.com/teams/cle/1994.htm

2012 Seattle Seahawks

Scored 412 points (25.8/g), 9th of 32 in the NFL.
Allowed 245 points (15.3/g), 1st.
Differential of 167 points (10.4/g), 3rd.
Expected W-L: 12.4-3.6.

http://www.pro-football-reference.com/teams/sea/2012.htm

So what happened to the 1995 Bill Belicheck led Cleveland Browns? Art Modell made a deal to move them to Baltimore. Yes, that's right, the year they are favored to win the Superbowl, he stabs their fans in the back and moves the team. The team fell apart and never played up to their potential.

To add insult to injury, the former Browns won the Superbowl 4 years later.

So let that be a lesson about distractions! If this team gets too full of themselves they will cease being a team. If we win the Superbowl this year, Pete Carroll deserves Coach of the Year for keeping his team focused.

Here's some temperance for you.

We were the 4th best team in the league when it comes to game lost to injury last season.

http://www.footballoutsiders.com/stat-a ... games-lost

We were 27th the year before that. Russell Wilson deserves credit for helping our team improve by 4 games, but our team health was hugely important, too.

Detroit, on the other hand, was 4th in 2011 while posting a 10-6 record. In 2012, they dropped to 24th and racked up a 4-12 season.

Injuries are massively important, and they're something you can't control no matter how good your team looks on paper.
