Caleb Williams, true heir of Russell Wilson?

I am not a big fan of subjective statistics like “pressures.” I prefer objective stats like sacks, and the stats agree with reality there. It’s been especially bad the last few weeks with both starting tackles out, but it’s been bad all season to where Bears rank #31. Waldron and Willians deserve some blame, but it’s mostly on the offensive line — and ultimately on Poles who has had 3 years. I like to remind the Poles lovers that the Lions record was 3-13-1 in 2021.

Well, doomed for 2024. The hope is that Poles will finally focus on the offensive line in 2025 free agency and draft. If necessary, McCaskey and Warren should just give him the order.

Seahawks need to do the same, especially if Lucas and Olu do not perform well in these remaining games.

The problem with this is 'sacks' measure a QB getting tackled behind the line but says nothing about why. It's easy to blame an offensive line every time your QB gets sacked but we know that trying to pass block for some QBs is harder than others.

You can have the best O-Line in the world but if your QB just holds the ball forever because he doesn't know how to diagnose a field, like say, I don't know... Justin Fields, for a completely random and not-at-all specific example, you'll still rack up a bunch of sacks.

I'm not a Poles lover or Eberflus defender or even a Williams hater, but again, the sacks numbers show there is an issue, but the other numbers suggest there is a bigger reason to that than just the offensive line.

I know that, and that’s why I said Williams and Waldron get a share of the blame. Waldron did not adjust his play calling to the fact that whole OL was injured (contributing to Williams ball holding).

Ball holding is one of the key elements for hero ball.

The Bears fired Waldron, and their offense still hit their season average of 19 ppg.

As we learned with the Jets, scapegoating rarely leads to increased performance.

Eh, they definitely looked like a much better offense, despite the point total. This was probably their most efficient offensive performance all season, and doubly impressive when you look at what their offense has been the last two or three weeks.

Unfortunately, they are in the same division as probably the best team in the NFC and Minnesota and Green Bay have to be favorites to get wild card spots at this point. Chicago needed that FG for their season.

Looked much better relative to the last two weeks, sure. But it's their 4th most efficient game of the season.

I was basing that assessment off of NFL NGS, who stated this was their highest EPA per play and 2nd highest success rate this season, so definitely could be wrong (also, depends on the definition of efficient).

That said, they were well above their season averages for both Points Per Drive and Scoring Percent, so regardless, it's hard to say the OC change was anything but successful if this only data point we have. (Though probably 'too early to tell' is more accurate).

That's interesting. I wonder why there's such a vast difference between NFLR and NextGen. For example, their EPA/play against Jax, according to NFLR, is double what they had today.

For sure. We'll see what happens. My hunch is that the QB is just inconsistent, and we'll see them continue to be what they've been all season.

For the stat lovers...Caleb has 128 passes (and counting) in a row without a TD (Rookie record). This week he will pass the NFL record of 154 passes without a TD. Currently 4+ weeks without a passing TD.

The O-line and coaching excuses are played out, at some point it's on the player.

This happens when teams go with the media darling most of the time.

I'd take Caleb Williams in a nanosecond for the Hawks QBOTF.

I am watching the thanksgiving Lions vs Bears, Caleb is nowhere as good as Russell Wilson.
