Are the cards going to be our main rival?

i didn't really see an effort by the rams today. they got blown out.

I saw more an effort by the 9ers but both jg and kittle ended up in the locker room. ironic that nick did better than jg but still that was a 10-point loss for them.

The only one i see with heart and competition at this point are the cards.

Thoughts?

Yeah, I'd say so. At the beginning of the year, it looked more like the Niners, but they couldn't survive their injuries.

Yeah, but garbage time had a lot to do with Mullen's numbers too.

Yeah, but garbage time had a lot to do with Mullen's numbers too.

The 9ers simply don't accept that with a backup qb they can sometimes win, even when that has been proven. Even when one part of the team shows up, the rest of it seems to shut down.

They don't realize this even despite medical facts that even the announcers could see, i.e. that Jg's ankle was an issue way way back when they could have done something about it (like insert Mullens). It's like they have extreme Belichick syndrome because jg had been losing the game for them until it was out of hand--but at least Belichick doesn't have someone proven to win games in any fashion whereas shan does.

The whole cinderella 49ers story disappears at midnight when jimmyg is not there, and who knows what's going on with his ankle now. or whether the whole next game with them will be garbage time.

Mullens played like crap against other teams..
He looks good against us like every sub and scrub has.
As for the Cards..They won but I don't think they are that
good honestly.I believe it was luck and RW burning his
cooking with those picks.
Talk to me about the Cards after next time we play them.

No, our main rival is the defense and self inflicted wounds.

We were playing really deep prevent against him though. The game was already well out of reach when he came in.

Yes. The cards are not that good and we beat ourselves first.

So hmm, you didn't see a drastic improvement with our depleted Defense in Quarterback pressures, Sacks, Hits, Batted Down Passes, Hurries, & Interceptions, from last weeks outing? :smilingalien:

We'll see how they do against a semi-competent QB.

At the beginning of the season, I said the NFCW is a 2-horse race between the Hawks and the Cards. When pressed, I said that the Niners were lucky with their injuries last year, and were going to revert to the mean, and the Rams were going to struggle as long as Goff is their QB. Dominant defense notwithstanding, you can only cover up Goff's flaws (2 cent head) for so long.

I see no reason to change my opinion.

So far a least the Cardinals certainly look to be the chief rival. The next game will be critical to the Divisional Championship. Even if the Hawks don't win it it'd be nice to smack these guys down next time. By then the defensive reinforcements will show up.

In the end I had to chuckle about the Hawks D being our chief rival comment.

I’m not sold on Arizona because I’m not sold on Kyler Murray. He was horrible against Dallas and other than our game where we couldn’t lay a finger on him he’s been average at best the rest of the year.

That felt like giving a game away a LOT more than the Cards taking it from the Hawks. Russ had a rare game w/3 picks. And 2 were just plain bad decisions. Overall, Cards are a good team, but I just don't see them as a contender. And that's not just because I'm a homer, they just look like a good/not great team overall.
Hawks moved the ball up and down the field on them a good part of the day. And lead in the game all but the final play.

I NEVER look past a division rival... that being said I dont think Goff is having a great year and the Niners are a great team when they are healthy... The Cards are really tough. The Cards will be the ones who challenge but the Rams are still in the discussion...IMO The Niners will be looking to rough up Seattle that last game...

Seattle's chief rival is their own defense who does their best to give the game away nearly every week, for the time being.

In my own mind, it's the Rams. McVay has continued to run circles around Pete & Co. since 2017. They make Goff look like an MVP candidate far too often when they play.

It's a rock-paper-scissors- dynamic going on the division in recent times.

49ers own the Rams -> The Rams own the Hawks -> The Hawks own the 49ers.

AZ tends to play Seattle and SF pretty tough, but not the Rams.

I said all of that to say this: The NFC WEST will be absolutely ridiculous in 2021 so the Hawks will not be able to worry about who their main rival is. They all are for 2021.

I don't think San Francisco is the primary threat until they get a quarterback who can elevate their team rather than bottleneck it.

It's either the Rams or Cardinals, and I think it all depends on how well Kliff does from here. If he can sustain buy-in and performance as Kyler grows into a reliable franchise guy, then you may well see them battling towards or playing in the Super Bowl by 2024.

The Rams are a lot more hot and cold since their Super Bowl run. I'm not certain McVay ever reclaims his mojo. If he does, he's bottlenecked by Goff, so the team is relatively low ceiling unless he comes up with another league-spanking offensive scheme.

The Rams will play us tough. They always do. They may even sweep us, but they won't be the team we are battling for the NFCW crown this year.
