especially with the woes on O-line right now. It limits our options and defenses pin their ears back.

On short yardage situations, absolutely. You need to give them the thought that you might not pass.

We won. We are 4-0. We are 2-0 on the road with early starts. I'd like to think I know a little bit about football, but I will not question what the staff is doing as long as things are turning out this way.

I don't think that the staff had much to do with the win (maybe on defense in the second half) as much as it had to do with Russell just taking over and running his way down the field. I am pretty sure Bevell didn't design all of those pirouettes in the pocket and have Wilson take multiple shots on the sideline because about 90% of the plays called didn't work.

I think if Seahawks.NET were calling the plays on both offense and defense we would be undefeated for the past 12 years and we would not have allowed a first down.

I'm not a big fan of the empty backfield formation, but I think it has its place and uses. It does seem a bit silly on 3rd and 1, though.

The staff had everything to do with the backfield you mentioned in your post. I am admittedly much more of a cheerleader than a coach or player, still, I won't question the "staff" when we are doing so well. That's just the way I am. No offense to you sir.

Carroll has talked about designing plays and practicing around Russell's scrambling ability all season. In one of last week's mic'd up videos you hear Bevell mention "the scramble rules" to Wilson on the sideline. I think you underestimate our coaching.

I'm with this, at least on offense. Offense looked hapless, they just had no answer for the Texan Dline, understandable with the line the way it was, but essentially it was RW taking the cue from Lynch to just do what he had to do and take off that resulted in anything positive on the offensive side of the game.

Again, not much you can do from a play calling perspective with that OL, but by the same token, I can't assign staff credit for RW just being magic legs when he had to.

When Harvin gets back, I bet we will all love that formation.

I assume that to be true. Hoping that Harvin is 100% healthy with no ill effects and keeps his speed.

That's the kind of thinking that leads to mental complacency and a string of losses, and it sure looks like EXACTLY what the 49ers staff was thinking going against us again this year.

Just my opinion.

My glass is half full. :D

There is no need to rush him back before he is ready. They will need to give him limited reps at first so he can get back into "game shape".

I have a hard time believing that Bevell calls Benny Hill Left and Benny Hill Right when everything else isn't working.

I only like it if its to create space to allow Wilson to run the ball more effectively.

Once we get Harvin and Tate on the field together, it will be a much more significant formation.

I don't think it's that at all. It's just that when it is necessary for the QB to scramble, it would be a good idea to have some limits in place to help he and the OL to coordinate a bit. When the QB is scrambling and changing directions a lot is when a lot of holding calls and illegal blocks go down, as the DL changes directions with the OL hanging on. The problem is that the OL generally have their backs to the QB and can't tell where he's going if he isn't staying in the pocket. And if they turn around to look, the DL will smoke them anyway.

Having some guidelines in place for scramble situations sounds like a good idea to me.

Ok, I can see that. I'm not trying to change anybody's way of thinking. Only sharing mine. To elaborate ill say this. The Seahawks are winning. I am enjoying the hell out of it. Why would I question what plays are called or what formations are use or what personnel are on the field, if the out come is exactly what is causing my enjoyment. At the end of the day I want the Seahawks to win. If that happens I'm happy. IMHO if any one play had been set up different than it was, the entire outcome could have been changed. You know the whole time travel idea. Do not change the course of events. Kidding aside. The coaching staff knows way more about football than I do, they are winning, I wont question what they are doing.

Edit: like the beer commercial, it ain't crazy if it works.
