SF would do everything in it's ability to make sure he doesn't make it to us. Would be nice to have another pass rusher and hopefully this locker room can make a difference if it did happen, but it won't. Dude is a nutcase.

Smith won't ever be a Seahawk, he won't ever go to another NFCW team. I wouldn't blame the Niners for keeping him, but it will say a lot about the FO if they do retain him.

Already on the hook for other stuff, the Niners sent him to get himself straight and he made a choice of stupidity by either continuing to drink after getting a second chance or just being stupid at the airport. Either way, the guy is stupid. Fantastic player, no question, but DAMN...

Amusingly enough, the best place for him right now is in Seattle.

Pat O'Day can tell him past stories of rock legends and hydroplane lore, everyone wins! 8)

It wasn't just Marvin word. It was reported by several sources that he was fired for embarrassing the 49ers organization drunk at the combine and other functions. Google is your friend. It doesn't matter. People go through personal problems all the time. From what I have read he has them in order now. He was a good eye of talent in SF. He had his misses as all general mangers do (Balmer). But I am sure he is valuable in Seattle's process.

You have a link? I searched for this and couldn't find anything to confirm it. I notice you didn't make any attempt also. If you cannot confirm it then I will just assume it is another 49ers fan lie.

Damon Bruce reported it on KNBR. You can find tweets that collaborate it. https://twitter.com/49erholics/status/11117006074 and http://www.yardbarker.com/nfl/articles/ ... sm/2325245

Its a very sensitive topic and the organization clearly did not want the reasons getting out since employment law leaves them open for a lawsuit. The show was posted online but it appears to be non-working.

The 49ers fired Scot days before the draft. Scot was going through a messy divorce with his wife that led him having drinking problems that interfered with his work. I remember when it happened.

I don't even see why this is being argued. It doesn't really prove anything. The bottom line in today's NFL is their is a very greyline between what a team is willing to tolerate off the field for on-the field performance. The better the player on the field the more willing they are to tolerate. If I was the GM of the 49ers, I would not cut Aldon Smith. Honestly, I would give him another shot to not be an idiot and figure he is a lot cheaper to retain. He hasn't murdered anyway. He just has been incredibly stupid and got lucky he didn't harm anyone when he drove drunk. If he goes to jail, he goes to jail. I doubt he would get a lot of time anyway. If I were him, I would be begging for a plea deal.

Nothing concrete here, but it was widely talked about in the media here in the Bay Area.

This is just a report of what Damon Bruce said on the radio, so nothing concrete...

http://49ersnews.com/2010/03/absolut-scot/

Can't find a lot about it on the internet and the 49ers never commented on it, but its pretty widely known in 49er circles that he was an alcoholic and was going through a divorce. He was a good GM and I liked Scot so was sad to see him go. I hope he's turned it around.

You are free not to believe it, but that's what all the rumors said at the time. You also gotta wonder what else might facilitate him being fired just weeks before the draft.

The essence of your point is valid, but IF the Niners choose to release the dimwit, they won't have much say in where he plays out his career. That aside, with his past, the Niners might even see a trade with Seattle as the best of both worlds: They get our (?) and we get their headache. I do agree such a scenario is incredibly unlikely but stranger things have happened (and they've happened to us. lol).

Any official word on whether he was intoxicated or not? I have to think that report will be the determining factor in what's in store for his immediate future.

He will never be traded to Seattle. He could sign there after a release (which I don't think is going to happen), but it wouldn't be a trade.

As for his being intoxicated or not, I'm not sure we will ever know in any sort of official capacity because according to the police it wasn't a part of the case. The officer said that "he appeared to be drinking earlier but was not intoxicated". Can't remember exact wording, but she said essentially that he may have been drinking earlier but it had no bearing on the case.

That may not matter though. If he was drinking the Niners won't care if he is charged for that or if that's a part of the report. They only care if he was drinking because it would prove he hadn't learned the lesson, even if that wasn't what he was arrested for.

My own view, after talking to several sources: Aldon Smith hasn't only lost the benefit of the doubt, he probably won't play for them in '14

I'll believe it when I see it.

I've been watching a lot of newsroom lately, and frankly, I'm tired of the term sources thrown around in the media without ever having to actually name the sources.

If only I could get away with that in school. My bibliography would just list "sources"

The 49ers will use this to get the cheapest deal they can from him. But 100%, they will re-sign him.

He isn't worth as much as he was before so it's a net loss for them even if they pay him less.
