As disappointing as it is to come up short, taking a lead into the 7th inning of game 7 in the ALCS is about as close as you can get without getting there. This is the closest this franchise has ever come to the WS.

I'm sure plenty of people can't wait to shit all over this team and it's fans, but man, that was a great season.

Better team won. Out pitched and out hit. Polanco, Crawford, Arozarena, Robles, and Geno accept for one game all no shows. Pitching garbage, bullpen not much better. It was fun while it lasted

Need to address the middle infield, 3rd base and right field, starting and bullpen pitching.....

That's the next step. Randy and Garver are probably gone. They'll sign Geno and Polanco they did enough in the post season to keep around. One year left is on JP's contract. Assuming they resign Naylor next seasons team should look pretty similar.

Good game 7 though, very competitive which is what I was most concerned about. Congrats to the Jays, even though I don't think either the M's or Jays will beat the billion dollar Dodgers machine.

The FO for the Mariners need to understand they have a dumpster fire bottom of the lineup. While that might work for their 54% regular season formula, it clearly is a detriment to the team in the postseason, so their formula -- like it did when Lou was managing them -- is only good enough to be champions of the regular season. If you want to win in the Postseason you have to pay for that.

I have zero faith they will do so. They did not do it in 95, they did not do it in 2001, and they will not do it this time. I hope they prove me wrong on this, as the AL is wide open for a team to drop some good money on FA's and pull up high quality prospects and dominate both the regular and post season by doing so. But I have been a fan of the Mariners since Alvin Davis was their All-Star first baseman, and I highly doubt anything will ever change to propel the team forward in the manner needed to win it all.

Why? It's the Mariners. The regular season and first round playoff champs. Has always been this way, and will always be this way unless they get a serious 1-9 lineup that can play in the reg AND post season. Go look at the 95 and 2001 lineups and you will see the exact same thing.

They invest in 3-4 dudes, and call it a day.

I feel you. The farther you get, the closer you get, the more devasting coming up short can feel. It's the nature of sport. Only one team emerges victorious. The drama of it all. And when you get that close, you know how hard it is to get back to that place for another stab at it.

I definitely feel it.
