In 1999, the Seahawks made their biggest coaching hire with the appointment of Green Bay Packer head coach Mike Holmgren. Coming off his success with the Green Bay Packers, Holmgren was given the dual role of General Manager and Head Coach. The hiring brought instant credibility to the franchise as under Holmgren's guidance, the Seahawks won their second division title and first playoff berth since 1988. That year included a memorable 24-7 win over Holmgren's former team, the Green Bay Packers on Monday Night Football but despite a strong 8-2 start, the Seahawks lost 5 of their last 6 to close out the regular season. This skid continued on into the playoffs as the Seahawks lost the final game in the Kingdome 20-17 to Dan Marino and the Miami Dolphins in the AFC Wild Card round; the game proved to be Marino's only career road playoff win.

hmmm...... (From Wikie)

That's the year we were exposed by SHAUN KING!!

In 2005, there were games that they squeaked by. How bout the game in SF, they had to stop a 2 point conversion before they laid a major beatdown on them at home. The Dallas game where they did nothing all game and got a late score, then a pick to line up for a long FG. The Giants FG debacle, the Titans game was another.

I actually think the 2003 team had a better offense than the 05 team, but the 05 team just figured out ways to win. That's why I am so jacked for this season. They are doing what they need to do to win, period.

The real sign of this team's maturity was the manner in which they came back on Sunday. They were systematic and they kept their cool. They just played their game and decided that they were going to win. Most teams could not have pulled that off.

We've weathered a lot of injuries. If you asked anyone here at the beginning of the year if they'd be happy at 8-1 at this point in the season, the vast majority would answer "yes!".

We haven't played our best ball. Wilson hasn't regressed, but I don't see a ton of progression this year, and that could be due to the OL. We seemed to be better at rushing the ball last year. Our Defense is damned good, and has cleaned up some 3rd down issues, but we're still getting gashed by the run.

On the positive sides, our pass rush is borderline elite. We have tons of young players progressing nicely (Kearse, Irvin, Willson, etc.). Our schedule is looking favorable from here on out with a much weaker Atlanta team (with almost nothing to play for), a weak Minn team and a bye, followed by a tough but beatable team in NO, SF, and then some very winnable games at home to end the season. The rest of our season is home field heavy in games.

Our two biggest rivals in the NFC have yet to play eachother; someone gets weakened by a loss between NO and SF. NO is very tough at home and I can see them favored in this game. SF is playing a much tougher Carolina squad than previously thought. The Panthers wouldn't be a shock to win that game.

It's set up for us to have something rare and extremely special this season. We really just need to win the games we should the next two weeks, stay healthy and win at least 1 of the games we really need to win against SF and NO (I'm leaning towards the SF being more important).

I am so pumped at this point for 8-1; who projected that at the beginning of the season?

The part making me the most excited is we have managed this while beat up bad and we are getting very close to becoming extremely healthy. This, while the rest of the league is starting to get the injuries we had early in the season.

Just think about this. We are looking at being our healthiest well rested coming off our bye week in the 13th week of the season(knock on wood). We have nearly weathered the storm and can see good weather on the horizon.

EDIT: Damn, forgot the

Go Hawks!

I was think 5-3 at this point as the best we could do, but I am really happy with the wins. Just keep on winning!

The 5-0
I had projected us to lose only to Houston at this point, with the next potential loss coming against Atl. Cough.

The above was with Harvin and a healthy line. It's amazing (to me) we are where we are without either. It has been something of a "magical" run. Lots of things have fallen into place for us in the NFC like the Rams not being as good as I thought they'd be (though they got up for us) and the same can be said for Houston and Atl. The Saints falling to the Jets and now a Packer team without Aaron Rodgers. The biggest surprise for me is the fact it looks like SF will continue to be our biggest nemesis. I honestly didn't think they'd be nipping at our heels like the poodle led Chihuahuas they are.

I actually predicted the 9ers would finish 3rd in the division. I expected great things from the Rams and nothing from Kaep. True to form, they are looking like the Dilfer led Ravens: Great team, suspect QB and they are about to get better. For the 1st time since we beat them down at the Clink last year, I am concerned about playing them at the Stick. We will need Okung, Breno and Harvin and more importantly, get back to stopping the run.

In all, I am very pleased with this team. Great teams fight through adversity and the Hawks do so weekly.
