Do you go for it in the Super Bowl? It's 10-10 with less than 2 minutes remaining in the SB and you go for it in chip-shot field goal range?

It's always about context. We were getting our arses kicked in just about every key stat category the whole game. If it wasn't for two blown FG's and two INT's, we wouldn't even be having this discussion. Yet, in spite of it all, we had a chance there to come close to putting the game away. You take that chance.

I KIND of get it, offense was ineffective, and the defense was the hotter hand of the two. Not saying I agree with it, but when your bell cow back has 10car/20yds (lol btw) and thr OC is being obtuse, trusting the defense to get the stop isn't a bad move.

It would have been THE defining moment we all wanted from this team, a big stop at home against SC. Just didn't play out that way. If this one game defines the season, fans may as well start looking towards the draft now and stop watching the games now.

What does this even mean? Do you want to take the lead late in 4th or not?

You weren't running down the clock, they had plenty of time to score no matter what you did. We kicked the FG with 3.5min left.

Meh a touchdown would be nice though?

I'm not saying the field goal guys are wrong I just think in that moment against your biggest rival at home you go for it. I don't think this is a clear cut right or wrong but just how I see it.

The defense also started to show some cracks as the TOP started to pile up and you were running the ball well during that drive.

But like others have said if Woolen just makes one of the two baffling plays not massive mistakes we probably win.

If they go for it on 4th and 1 -- they probably get it.

If they don't though, which how many 0 yard runs did we see? There were 7 0 or fewer yard runs. That's almost a third of runs.

So, let's say 70% of the time you get it. You run off another minute and get a chance at a TD. You win if SF doesn't score again.

2024, Seattle had a 33% TD success rate in the RZ.

23.1% chance of a TD + 1m off clock
40% chance of a FG + 1m off clock
63.1% chance of scoring + 1m off clock
or
90%+ chance of scoring now

1m off the clock still means ~2m+ on the clock + TO for the 9ers (the SF drive was less than 2m long)

If SF scores quickly you also get a chance to get the ball back -- which they did, with over a minute and a half.

Because Olsen said he’d go for it, I say we made the right call.

If we don’t get the first down there, we’d all be calling for Mac and Kubiak’s heads because they didn’t take the go-ahead points.

Riq needs to go back to Tariq and get the burnt toast smell off of himself.

I've already said my opinion before, but I'll say it again. To me, it was not about taking the lead there so much as it was about what gave us the best chance of winning the game at that moment, a game that we were being beaten in from almost every key statistical category. To me, we were given a chance there to dramatically tilt the game in our favor of winning if we get that first down there, to run the clock down, make them use some timeouts, get a TD, or even kick a FG with less time remaining.

When we kicked a FG there, I did not at all feel the game had been dramatically tilted in our favor, but only slightly so. They had plenty of time to move the ball down the field to tie the game on a FG, or even move ahead with a TD, and it was four down territory for them the whole forthcoming drive. And it's not like they hadn't been moving the ball downfield on our D most all game. We had a hell of a time even getting their offense off the field on 3rd down (TOP), and even less so when you add 4th down to the equation.

And again, if you had enough trust in our defense to preserve that 3 point lead (not much of a reason to think so), then you should have had enough trust in our D to get the ball back if we failed on that 4th down attempt. The only reason why we were still in the game at that point was the result of two missed FG's and two INT's on poor passes earlier.

IMO, it was clear then that the wrong decision was made based upon these factors, and even more so in retrospect. The proof was in the result.

I wasn't happy about taking the points. Felt like a great time to deliver the death blow and establish our offense.

I liked the call at the time.

It wasn’t an issue regarding the message the coach was sending. It was the message of let’s take the lead here and hold onto it. The results just didn’t pan out.

If we went for it and got stuffed, which quite frankly would’ve been what happened knowing how inconsistent our O line was, that would’ve been second guessed as well.

Even if we had gone for it, they just would've handed it off to K9 who would've danced around in the backfield like a fool and got stuffed for a 2 yard loss. Every OC we hire completely sh*ts the bed in these situations.

I think all things considered, the better call would have been to go for it. I understand that call would have required quite a fair bit of courage but given the situation it would have improved our chances to win. I agree with all of the sentiments about Woolen though. Just don't want to see him wearing the Seahawks uniform again. What he was doing on the TD play, Lord only knows.
Agree 100%. Woolen needs to go. He let us down on multiple plays yesterday, and it's not as if it were just a bad game. He's been a weak link going on 3 seasons now. Two different coaching staffs benched him mid-season for his performance. Next man up!

With regards to the 4th and less than 1 decision to kick the FG, one of the things that's not being mentioned is the psychological effect that call can have on a new offense, in particular the offensive line. The big uglies love to run the ball, love playing smash mouth, and I'm sure they had the adrenaline pumping when they spotted the ball and flipped the down marker to 4. Yet the head coach doesn't trust them to get less than a yard in a situation where the odds say they'll succeed much more often than fail. I can guarantee you that every single player in that huddle wanted to go for it, but Mac didn't hesitate to send the FG unit on.

I didn’t like the amount of time on the clock. If you convert it’s another 2 minutes off the clock or they burn their timeouts at a minimum, barring a turnover, and if you fail they’re playing for a winning FG with a shaky SP unit against our defense that was playing well.

Riq definitely screwed up twice on that last drive, which no one could plan for but I thought the risk/reward was overwhelmingly in the go for it category.
Play that again and riq probably doesn’t blow both those plays

There is the school of thought that says no way Woolen can possibly get embarrassed on two plays in one drive and that would be the only way it would turn out to be a bad decision.

Turns out where there’s a will, Woolen will find a way to get embarrassed on two plays in one game winning drive.
Just kept hearing.. "looks like he just misplayed the ball".

There was once a guy nicknamed BeastMode who, in a Super Bowl, didn’t….

F it.

Spot on tho. Send the Ootz caboose and have Charb get that yard.

*Edit…resorted to making jokes. Very real sign that I’m pissed off. That game was fng ridiculous.
We have the personnel to get that 4th. Jalen Milroe fell forward for 2 yards on a qb dive. I am sure we are not gonna play like that again. But why did we play like that in the first place.

The sentiment was popular in the gameday thread but I disagree wholeheartedly. You have a chance to take the lead late in the 4th quarter and you just have to take it. If we were up by 3 then I'd say go for it.

Even if it's a 70% chance of getting it, you're giving up a 95% chance of taking the lead over a 70% chance of having more of a chance to score a TD.
OK, I respect that. But if you're going to kick the FG, why not at least line up as if you were going for it and try to get the defense to jump offside and take the 5 yard delay of game penalty if they don't? What's the difference between a 34-yard attempt and a 39-yard attempt?

Mac didn't even hesitate, sent the FG unit in as soon as the ref showed the clenched fist. He's a gutless coward.

Don't hate that. Even seeing how the D lined up would help make a better decision.
