Interesting that this isn't being talked about yet on the main board

Seems like a good deal, and much cheaper than Mafe

It’s not currently at the top of the board but does have a thread here

Figured I'd do a little cap exercise for you all, mostly to show you how accessible true cap data is for those who care about such stuff.

The NFLPA keeps a tally of available cap numbers by team here: https://nflpa.com/reports/public-salary-cap-report
So, if you check there you'll see they have the Seahawks with precisely $29,058,755 in available cap. This figure is really just a placeholder as it only factors in the top 51 contracts with a few exceptions. Once we get into the regular season, all active contracts count including practice squad and injured guys. I'm not going into any of that because at the moment this is merely an academic exercise to answer the question --- "can we replicate how that figure was calculated?".

Well, I was able to do it...... almost......

I'm going to refer you to the Spotrac Seahawks page here: https://www.spotrac.com/nfl/seattle-seahawks/overview for reference. As much of a fan of OTC I've been for many years, I just can't deny that Spotrac has surpassed OTC based on depth and accuracy of data.

All these numbers below can be gleaned from the Spotrac page (although I had to add up the contracts manually).

Available cap = Total Cap - Used Cap.

Total Cap = League Cap $301.2M + 2025 Rollover $15,029,706 - Adjustments* ($1,176,444) = $315,053,262

Used Cap = Top 51 Contracts $284,709,254 + Pro rated bonuses for contracts over top 51 $772,418 + Dead Cap $513,724 = $285,995,396

Total Cap - Used Cap = $29,057,866 Available Cap which is $889 less than the NFLPA posted figure.

One last note, Spotrac does claim the Seahawks have a little less space than that by exactly $25,000 which I'm almost certain is their handling of a potential roster bonus due Shemar Jean-Charles. Part of doing this exercise is I have a pretty good idea that bonus shouldn't count until it's actually paid, although i get why Spotrac figured it should count.

I've done this a few times over the off-season and the $889 keeps showing up and I don't have any good way to bridge the figure. But still, pretty good, eh? Anyone who read this far gets a free cookie.

*I talked about adjustments in an earlier post so I won't go back over that, but Spotrac does show that figure on their site.

Does that free cookie come off the cap this year or does it roll over to next year?

Derick Hall contract details from OTC :

1780669216366

$13M signings bonus.

2026 salary goes down from $1,993,033 to $1,250,000.

$1,020,000 per game roster bonus is guaranteed in 2026, but not in 2027-2029

Salaries to start 2027 and 2028 are guaranteed at the end of the previous season so pretty close to fully guaranteed.

Total new money is $42,000,000 but he only gets all that if he plays every game in the last 3 years.

There is an additional $1.5M in incentives, but not details on what those are, but they are NLTBE and it's a safe bet tied to sacks.

His 2026 cap went up by about $3.347M, so the Seahawks available cap now stands at just about $25.7M.

Interesting moves here:

New Minnesota GM Nolan Teasley's first moves are signing a couple of WRs who were in Seattle very briefly.

OK, not that interesting, but maybe a harbinger of things to come. Will be interesting when final cuts happen how many of our guys get claimed in Minny.

I’d expect quite a few as he was complicit in the many of the fringe players being acquired. He/Minnie will become a competitor for these players going forward.

Little doubt there (is) are more signings to come.

I sincerely doubt Viking fans comprehend how huge the signing of Nolan Teasley will prove to be.

Let's hope JS haso or acquires more depth in the Head Office, or that the team finds or acquires a difference maker with the two 3rd rd picks. Losing Teasley is to me the most significant loss of the offseason to the team. Change however is constant.

The Vikings do however need a legit QB and they are not easy to find. The two guys they have there now both are flawed players. their offseason moves will be interesting to watch but I suspect they may become Seahawks Midwest at least for a while.

Levi Wentz is our first post-June 1 release, so he'll count $6,667 towards the 2027 cap.

Expecting him to be claimed by Minnesota in 5...4....3...2....

Unsurprisingly the predation of our experienced FO staff continues by the Vikings as they have signed away Trent Kirschner too. I expect more losses.

Thankfully the culture here is strong but the losses will be felt.

I agree, but it is yet another cost of winning the Super Bowl.

Players and staff are predated. Hopefully their collective replacements will maintain the Championship level.

Ouch!

Given that Nolan and Trent are familiar with all 4 of the 2025 drafted defensive backs, we could see a waiver claim or two given the Viking depth needs in their defensive backfield. And, perhaps another position group as well.

John has honed his scouting department since the beginning, I'm sure he saw this coming, he will have a plan. He is the Maestro after all, all these guys operated under his policy, direction and methods. Eye for detail on a player is the hardest thing to replace. We have been doing pretty well lately drafting, so we have people on staff capable that can climb the ladder and replace guys on the lower tiers of the department to give new hungry people a chance to prove themselves.
