Rodney has 38 saves. Come on people . Its like you hate success. or least approaching it. That has to be a mariners record.

He needs seven more to tie and eight to break Sasaki's record of 45 in the 2001 season.

38! If we don't collapse in September.... what is the ML record Curry?

62. I don't think he is going to get that one.

Lets hope not but 50 would be right. It would mean we make the playoffs and all bets are off then.

By the way...Dustin Ackley

That was my question earlier, has he found his swing or is he going to go 1-53 now? Dude seems to be so hot and cold. As I said earlier the 2 spot seems to work well.

Well, he's a .250 hitter (by average), and I dont think much more. He's never really been consistent, and has had hot streaks in the past. But not usually power hot streaks like this one.

I'm sure a let off is coming, hopefully not a significant one. But he was a big part in the 3 game sweep. He may never be the player we all hoped for. But at this stage of his career he's very useful and if the power surge becomes more of a constant he represents a fairly dangerous threat in the top half of the order.

plus... his beard is fantastic

I think it's been so long since the M's had any real success, people forget how BB is a game of streaks, and even the winning teams have to get through tough spots and slumps and capitalize on the breaks they get. It's hard to get past when they drop a few games and not start thinking "S.O.M's" but it is starting to look like they have turned some kind of corner. Rodney is a case in point. Sure, he gives people heart attacks sometimes, but he's been facing some of MLB's best and has been piling up the saves.

It's just really, really nice to be playing meaningful baseball in late August for a change. :)

its like 44/45 by Sazaki, but he's certainly close.

I think people forget who Rodney is. He's 37, and the closing role wasnt his full time job until like 2012. he fell into that job after Farnsworht went down. He can hurl, but control has always been a factor. he's done a very good job of being relatively consistent this season, despite a handful (its actually less than that, but feels like so much more) situations in which he's given the paying fans their money's worth.

With Rodney you have to embrace the madness. He'll coast through some save situations. But you can certainly prepare yourself for some nail biters. He's been better than he was in 2013 (although not quite where he was in 2012).

personally, I think he's shown himself worth the money. Despite the ride, he's got the job done, as he did in Tampa

I really hope the M's make the play offs but the schedule ahead is tough. I think we need to sweep the Rangers as the Nationals are red hot just now and it's going to be tough. September looks horrible with two series against the A's and Angels. The bats need to stay warm.

I'm going with the glass half full approach. For every game we beat the A's and Angels we are one game closer to the top of AL West.

Also what happened to James Jones. I left for vacation in late June and he was on a hitting streak and stealing bases. Come back in August and he was back in AAA. Did his form plummet? Will he be back in the majors?

From what I read, teams figured out that he liked to swing at pitches outside of the strike zone. Regardless, his numbers plummeted and we got Jackson to take his place.

I seem to recall them saying that he'll definitely be one of the players brought up in September when the roster expands. His numbers definitely fell off and it was an easy choice to send him down to AAA once we got Jackson so that he could get playing time still. Even if he doesn't play much he could be extremely valuable in some late inning pinch-run situations with the speed that he has.

McClendon: "The stretch drive starts now. Players will not be given rest unless absolutely necessary"

Morrison, Cano: "Oh really?"

Jack Z gets a multi year extension. Not sure how I feel, would rather have waited until the end of the season to see if we make the play offs first. He can thank Lloyd McClendon for this.

I hope he does...He deserves credit for the team playing well. He made the trades, he helped shore up the minor league teams, etc. Why should he get blamed when things go wrong and not get any credit when they win. Jack Z has done a pretty good job. He hired McClendon after all...that speaks volumes.
