You mean like normal people if your team is absolutely out of the division race or either wildcard? Hate to break it to you but the Mariners are playing well enough to be a factor well into September and if they get a break or two they have a better then decent chance at being in a divisional playoff series. And unlike prior Mariner teams this team is built for playoff success rather then regular season success. Pitching rules everything in the playoffs and the Mariners have among the best in baseball.

I just can't say that they will absolutely secure a playoff berth of some stripe based on prior experiences concerning the team.

Both of you are inept when it comes to sensing sarcasm, which my response to the opinion comment was dripping with.
Too late to backpedal now.

I don't backpedal. If you cannot see the sarcasm in me agreeing with a post where it was stated that I give others their opinions, then I don't have the words for you. Nothing else that I have said in here contains sarcasm. I meant every word. I think that you are a fair weather fan and you have admitted as much.

:sarcasm_on: Such a first class Mariner fan. How everyone should aspire to be fan just like you. :sarcasm_off:

Might want to set your goals a bit lower.

I find it odd to have such a huge problem with someone that just doesn't feel right about the team yet. The Mariners have been around for 40 years and haven't won a dang thing. Even our 'miracle' runs ended in the ALCS or before.

I don't know about Mizzou, but watching this team everyday for the past few years I can tell that it's a significantly different and WAYYYY better team. Especially with the offensive additions. But, if you weren't watching everyday, you might have a more difficult time.

Doesn't make you a bad fan. I dislike when other fans comment on a person's fandom. I didn't watch every Hawks in game in 2008, I don't care much for watching preseason games, you're not a better fan than me because you did, you're just a fan with more free time ;).
It's hard currently because I don't have cable or satellite so I get most information online but a day late because of the timezone difference. Mariner's games usually start at 9:00-9:30pm here and I am usually in bed by 10:30-11:00pm local time. So the game is maybe half finished at best even then.

Well when we have three long time posters of this forum fighting over "bandwagon" M's fans--that says more about how good the Mariners have become than the product on the field!

You must be the arithmetic man; you add trouble, subtract pleasure, divide attention, and multiply ignorance. Very difficult to get any lower than that.

I agree but I've seen too many bad things happen to the Mariners to guarantee a playoff berth yet.

Excuse me, but you are the troll here. With your, "prove it to me," nonsense. I believe that you said the same a few months back. At least you are a consistently bad "fan."

Curry my friend, i feel like you need to step back a bit.

lots of skeptical fans are coming in here tentatively supporting the team, but with good reason to not go all in.

I'm with you man, why not be all in. But i think its pretty fair for others to hesitate and share those concerns without a troll label.

Your feelings betray you. Those same, "skeptical fans," are just playing both sides of the fence. AKA, bandwagon fans. I read a post on .net the other day where a poster commented that they are fed up with people that say, "I hope that I am wrong, but..." This is because they play both sides of the fence. If the team fails, then they can say, "I told you so." If they are incorrect, then they feel like they deserve to share in the celebration. It is fake.
I've been a die hard M's fan since I saw Doc Medich pitch in that first season and got weird looking Rick Jones baseball cards..Some of you will know exactly the card...Anyway I understand Curry but I can see why others might not be like myself ,Curry,Smelly and Si and anyone I missed...It's easy to be fustrated with many years of losing and lousy gm's and step away for a while..It happens to almost any team..So I will say I'm more than ok with fans coming back or people jumping on..This team has earned the right to all the support it can get this year...It can only help the team going foward.Go Mariners!!

Much better than your previous attempt, although a bit dated. I do love mathematics though. Thank you for thinking of me.

In this case, still very much relevant.

Relevant, just like the Mariners. Otherwise, you would be nowhere to be found in this thread.

So we're back to the true or fair weather fan bit. I never claimed to be anything other than a fair weather Mariner's fan...I'm really not a fan of baseball...no one else has a problem with that except you. Tomorrow I could be fan of something else but I'm certain you'd still be an asshole. Instead of working so hard at being a jackass and calling out people who don't fit your perception of a "true fan", why don't you post something relevant to how well the Mariners are playing. It seems to be too challenging for you. Thus making your posts for the topic of the thread irrelevant.

I remember the 1978 team had Rick Honeycutt, Glenn Abbott, and Mike Parott as pitchers. They had Bruce Bochte, Dan Meyer, Rupert Jones, and Tom Paciorek. My first ever sporting event, after my family moved to the Seattle area, was M's against Blue Jays. Yet, I'm still a fair weather fan when it comes to the M's. I admit that. It's still great that they are playing well now and giving the city something to talk about.

Not to detract from the fun that is the online pissing match that has been going on over the last two pages, but the Mariners are currently down 4-0 in Philly right now. Elias didn't have shit for command tonight (6 walks and 1 HBP in 4 innings) but managed to only give up 1 run. Leone then proceeded to let up a 3 run home run in the next inning and that's where we sit right now. Dustin Ackley has 2 hits and the rest of the offense has 0.

If you were anywhere to be found other than when the Mariners have been winning then you would know that I talk ball and give updates on minor league players and injuries. This makes your comment complete BS and makes you look the fool as well.

You are dismissed.

I'm tired of watching this arguing. Let's just talk about the M's, not decide who's a real fan and who's not, period.

Never see you at Mariner Central so you're irrelevant to me given you can't even add anything of baseball value even here where most are casual fans. I await your deep knowledge over at my baseball home Lonnie and the boys will straighten you right up methinks.

That place is slow. I stop in there on occasion, but there is nothing ground breaking there. I have it bookmarked and check in to see if it will pick up traffic, but at this point I get more from lookout landing, and I believe that it is called Seattle Sports insider.

Straighten me out...shit. yeah, that won't happen at mariner central.

Come on Curry... thats about how 95% of fans of any team in any sport take their support. There is rarely objectivity, and even with it you rarely find it on an internet message board.

i'd say enjoy it. let others play both sides of the fence. atleast its relavent baseball talk in August.

I will be part of the 5% that will call them on their BS. That is as much of a right of mine as their disingenuous "fandom."

You are not the arbiter of fandom, so who cares what you think?

There is nothing worse than people that act like jackasses calling others out on being a fan.

Funny, because I believe that there is nothing worse than fair weather fans. Weird, differing opinions.
Ahhhhh the "Superfan card"........ Well played! :177692:

Uncle Si and I have butted heads in this very forum a lot, but he is 100% right here....
....and for you to attack Mizzougirl, is very poor form.
