Was trading Geno, DK part of Schneider's master plan?

Schneider has a plan, and trading Geno & DK was part of it.

Schneider had to score BIG this off season. And with all that has recently transpired, Schneider is under the microscope even more so now with all these changes.

If Seattle does not show significant promise this upcoming year, Schneider is likely gone himself!

The Heat on Schneider is rising!

You don’t want a GM with a plan. You want a GM with vision, and the ability to execute multiple plans. We have the latter.
One needs vision to establish a goal, one needs plans to achieve that goal. Both are in Schneider's job description.

I don't know if John has vision; he should, though. But I am reasonably sure that Schneider didn't have the communication skills to articulate his vision and goal.

Bad sign for Mac that players are wanting out. I didn't think he even did all that great of a job last season. The team looked very disjointed at times.
The players that want out are Pete guys it’s not too surprising MM and Pete are on very opposite ends of the spectrum

Poll choices are bogus. Was it the plan? No it wasn’t, but if Geno is asking for too much money that’s not something we can control. If he signed Geno to too much money that would be losing control. By setting a ceiling and sticking to it that is staying with a plan. Sometimes you have to pivot due to reasons outside your ability to control

I lean towards reactionary.

We know both trades were requested by DK and Geno.

Obviously, we could have already been shopping them both but the reporting for both guys just before the demands came to light was the opposite of that.

I think we put together a plan on short notice but, no, I don't actually think this was a master plan going in. I mean, we were actively negotiating with Geno when his team said no, offered no counter, and then asked to be traded.

I think it stretches the imagination that Schneider had 'planned' for Geno negotiations to stall that fast. I honestly think if Pete wasn't in Vegas right now, this off-season is completely different. I think Geno saw a chance to basically finish his career with his favorite coach in a warm location and jumped on it. More power to him, I guess.

Having DK be a potential domino that falls because of that would be disappointing but if we upgrade the O-Line, replace DK and Tyler with some talent (I will again pimp out my preference of signing Nick Westbrook-Ikhine and Marquez Valdes-Scantling), taking a small step back in QB talent (ala Darnold) could end up with us net neutral or even trend positive, since Darnold is younger.

If we roll out Sam Howell or be the third team that thinks they can make Justin Fields play like an NFL level QB, then all bets are off...

Perhaps the thinking is that things have not been working and it's time to blow it up...take someone like Howell, decide if he has something to give or not to the team..build via draft and FA around him..if he works out terrific..it's on the cheap for now..if not we know and either draft or pay som FA to lead. Now is a golden opportunity to fill holes..start younger and build with whatever John and Michael have in mind. DK can hopefully bring us some draft picks and let him be with a team to build on his legacy...just my opinion and humble thoughts.

I have no problem moving on from both Geno and DK as I am so sick and tired of being stuck in mediocrity and neither are worth the money they were reportedly asking. If we have to take a step back for a year, so be it. But I'm not so sure this was Schneider's plan. To me, he seems like a reactive GM rather than a proactive one.
Tanking mentality typically just means a team loses more talent. At least you're willing to own it, though.

But in general, any arguments that clamored for John Schneider to free up enough money to fix the O-line and then called him reactionary when he actually does it...can probably be safely dismissed as bad faith. $155m in cap space is nothing to sneeze at, though unfortunately a lot of it is probably going to Darnold.

The "no" distractor is kinda harsh, and I don't fully agree that they lost control of everything. Shit happens and sometimes the plan slips off the rails a bit. I think they're handling the sudden changes rather well.

The plan is to get younger and better. Go with a cheap qb option and draft the qbotf next year when the team is set.

According to the players they like the direction he's taking the team.

What I have read:

1. Schneider low balled Geno and DK.
2. Geno didn't counter offer; instead immediately requested a trade. The request was not public.
3. DK surprised Schneider with a public request for trade after Geno requested his.

Did Schneider have a grand plan, and it's part of that plan to rid the team of Geno and DK? If Schneider has a plan, we shall have a Geno replacement named within the next 36-48 hours, right?
if the reports are true that JS offered Geno 35m...is that low balling? Or just a reasonable offer for Geno?

Current reporting is that it was $40-$45M and Geno's side got the offer, said no, gave no counter, and then asked to be traded.

For Geno's talent level, probably a slight low ball. For his age? Probably generous. So, really feels like a fair offer.

It really seems like Geno just kind of forced his way out. I'm pretty sure all this is about Pete and I'll be shocked if Geno gets more from Vegas. (I mean, MAYBE they are offering $50M but I'm pressing 'X' to doubt.)

The offer of $40-45mil added weight to no master plan.

Does he have a vision though? He doesn't come off as a visionary to me.

He's more of an operator than a visionary.
