Wasn't that long ago, Dave, that you and I would scour the roster this time of year and see what changed, or we'd see photos of practice and a guy had a different number. Now they just tell us like it's a big announcement. Being a roster hawk isn't as much fun as it once was.

Also -- Ty Okada signed his tender.

LOL, still doesn’t stop us checking, then checking again does it?

This is an unfortunate result of having a good team and fewer draft picks this year. While somewhat boring the stability is some evidence the management thinks they’ve got a pretty strong roster..

Am indeed curious about the draft and wonder if Trader John can manufacture a few more picks and as well have the team acquire some talented UDFA candidates this next quickly approaching short spell. 15 available spots.

I wonder as well if there might be a few players traded?

As the draft bears down upon the team will JS trade away a few of the depth players?

Oluwatimi is a starting level C who has underachieved here and may be worth a late round pick in trade. He is not going to beat out Sundell and there may be potentially better G/C candidates available day 3 for development. Is the potential of Christian Haynes at G understood, or could he move to C or be traded for a late day 3 candidate?

What is the future for Mike Morris with Rylie Mills getting healthy? Could the team gather a late round pick for Morris?

Are there others?

Working on my at-home roster .... Jadarian Price was born October 2003 (I know......) still 4 months younger than Nick Emmanwori. Crazy how young Emmanwori was as a rookie and still just became a force so young. What a stud.

In other worlds---- the NFLPA has finally produced an updated team cap report. So, if you're a true cap/roster geek this is interesting as they hadn't really had it sorted out until now.

They show the available cap at right around $33.5M, which is very close to both OTC and Spotrac but closer to Spotrac. Even after rookies are all signed there will still be over $30M in available cap (no matter who's total you believe). If the team reaches a deal with Witherspoon that probably won't change the cap much as his cap number was higher than JSN as Spoon was a pretty high pick.

Looking at the top UFAs for 2027 that may be also be line to be extended it really isn't huge list. Derrick Hall, Leonard Wiliams, Uchanna Nwosu and our kicker are the most visible guys. Seems like we're saving money for what may transpire with Sam Darnold, and next year Byron Murphy will be eligible. We're in pretty good cap shape going forward for sure.

Seahawks trade a 2027 4th rd. pick with the Browns to get pick #148 in the 5th rd. The team then selected OG - Beau Stephens, Iowa.

This is a good OLineman who is a zone blocker. The team had him in for a 30 visit and obviously wanted him. The team until then had 12 picks in the 2027 draft so losing one was a smart move.

The Seahawks traded Pick#188 to the Jet for Picks #199 and 242. Then at Pick #199 they selected WR- Emmanuel Henderson Jr., Kansas.

Here's an assessment:
Lance Zierlein's assessment:

6' 0.875" 185 lb

Overview

Henderson is a slender inside/outside receiver. He has good speed and disguises route intentions but will need work getting his feet/tempo right as a route-runner. He’s a former running back with below-average hands but real potential after the catch. You won’t see many who return kicks and cover punts in the same game, but Henderson can handle both duties. His special-teams versatility and athletic upside give him a chance to make a roster as a WR5/6 and full-time gunner.

Strengths

  • Unique ability to return kicks and cover punts.
  • Above-average talent and pro potential as a gunner.
  • No matter the route, the drive phase looks the same.
  • Long strides create separation on slot fades and deep overs.
  • Good athlete who can make fluid catch adjustments.
  • Gives effort with his one-on-one blocks in space.
Weaknesses

  • Only one season of significant catch production.
  • Slender frame with smaller hands.
  • Needs to improve hand-fighting to fight off press.
  • Excessive gather steps on intermediate comebacks.
  • Below-average catch consistency and technique.
Looks to be a candidate to replace Dark Young on ST.

The Seahawks traded pIck #216 rec'd from Pitt. to the Packers for Picks #236 and #255. At 242 where they selected CB- Andre Fuller, Toledo.

Then they picked NT- Deven Eastern, Minnesota at PIck #242.

Finally at Pick #255 they selected another CB- Michael Dansby, Arizona

Phew, JS was busy ensuring he got solid depth to develop!

Draft profiles:
-Fuller: https://www.nfldraftbuzz.com/Player/Andre-Fuller-DB-Arkansas-PineBluff#google_vignette
Could be a draft sleeper has ability but needs coaching but adds to the pile to compete for roster spots eat CB

-Eastern: https://www.nfldraftbuzz.com/Player/Deven-Eastern-DL-Minnesota
A big long armed space eater.

-Dansby: it was tough to find draft profiles on this player. Here is a report on him from the team.

Seems like he wants to be aa ST player (gunner) and looks to be a solid developmental project.

Updated.

Now for the UDFAs

The team started with 4 picks and ended with 8 players drafted.

JS is a wizard getting the players he wants, or at least building depth with his roster.

Now for the UDFa class.

Here is an early list of potential candidates.

I will hold off posting the UDFA signings until there is a team announcement b/c every year the media in their enthusiasm often gets it only part right and we strive for accuracy.

Besides it’s more work when they get wrong.

Released Cam Akers

“ The move frees up a roster space following a draft in which the Seahawks added eight players, meaning Seattle now has 82 players on their roster not including undrafted rookie free agents, who will sign prior to the start of this week's rookie minicamp.
The Seahawks are allowed to have up to 91 players on their roster with an international player exemption for center Federico Maranges.”
