Darnold was coming off a close to MVP caliber season when we signed him. Milroe is a late 3rd round flier that's very raw and needs a lot of development. Pretty big difference.
Fair enough. But what about pre Vikings Darnold? Prior to 2024 I figured Darnold was just another first round bust.

Milroe is 23, so it’s not like his talent is going to expire this season. I’m curious though why we drafted him though. Is this JS doing the GB thing where they develop QBs for trade/profit? (Matt Flynn, Hass, kid that went to NE…). Or do they really expect him to take the QB1 spot at some point?

I agree that he needs to show something in the preseason to have any value though. As an aside has there ever been a decent QB come out of Alabama?

Ya know, I'd be happy if he only developes into a quality backup that stays for a decade. So many qb's flame out and are gone quick with no return on investment. If he gets to starter level, thats great bonus.

Joe Namath and Ken Stabler? It was a long time ago however.

It's my understanding that Milroe's character rating was/is off the chart. Outstanding parents and upbringing. Exceptional.

Outstanding character and upbringing is what sold the staff on JSN as well. It's that attribute that some draft candidates possess and others lack.

Exceptional character is a core team value.

Let's say Darnold & Lock are gone and you have 3 QB choices for the 2026 season, choose one.

Russell Wilson
Geno Smith
Jalen Milroe

Put up or shut up.

weird strawman argument. On what alternate universe would this ever happen? that list contains ZERO starters.

Not sure if it has been mentioned, but seems he's training with some QB guru, redoing his foot work etc. Seems he's really being serious about being a NFL level QB.
That's good to hear but I'm concerned with the processer which you cannot change in a person, it's what I believe QBs being equal in talent get separated by.
Someone mentioned virtual reality goggles ect, I have to see it work to believe.

Not sure I get the hate for our 3rd string QB LOL Didn't we go YEARS without one and no one was calling out Geno to 'prove himself' nor is anyone saying a subpar Lock needs to do that either. And where are all the "you can't judge a player for years" crowd?

Peyton Manning 40 time 4.8 seconds.
Tom Brady 40 time 5.28 seconds.

Every year the prognosticators salivate over the most athletic quarterbacks. What usually happens? Injuries.....short careers.

Some of the best quarterbacks look like they don't even excersize much. Matt Hasselbeck anyone?

Just thought I'd throw that out there.

For now Sam Darnold is our superstar qb who wins superbowls. Milroe is a curiosity and cheap contract. That's all he is until pressed into duty. We won't know anything until then.

We need a Milroe package. They did it last year and then abandoned it very quickly after he had a bad pitch that resulted in a fumble. The guy is about as eletric as it gets with the ball in his hands. Give him 3 plays a game in certain spots.
We need to stick to a solid game play based around fundamentals and putting the best players on the field. Move chains, grind the clock and keep the defense fresh.

Milroe wasn’t ready, and quite frankly, Darnold IS the quarterback that took this team to a Super Bowl and won. He played big in the NFC Championship game. That’s enough for me to grant me some respect. Milroe… I hope he continues to ride the pine.

Agreed. Not a fan of disrupting the flow of the offense and/or taking our starting QB off the field to give our 3rd string QB a handful of sporadic gimmick plays here and there.
