Seahawks need to retain Walker after this year!!!

John is saying he wants him back.

He also said of his running that he's been "maybe a little bit more decisive the last month and a half", which I take to mean that his best running in the last few years has come very recently, and that has to play a part in the equation.

To me, price and structure of the contract is what it will boil down to. He had a strong rookie season, followed by two disappointing years largely due to injuries, has rebounded this year, and very recently has been the back they envisioned him to be. What does that add up to contract-wise? We'll see. But I think the Hawks will have their limit. It's the risk/reward thing.

K9 looked great the last month like John refers to. Second contracts can be pricey.
I still stand by my original thoughts. A real nice center and some guards hitting the market. Thought Kubiak and crew did a nice job putting the peices together and stopping some of the rotating personnel. I ll be rooting for K9 just like everyone else.

I guess the part that would concern me though is how many times have teams seen a guy turn it on the contract year for the paycheck? I still have a hard time seeing most other running backs that would become available being as good as Walker for this offense.

Before the season started I would have been fine losing Walker. At this level I'm ambivalent. But I don't think it's as easy to find quality running backs as one might suggest - hence picks like Christine Michael, CJ Prosise, Rashaad Penny who all cost significant draft capital for little return.

Between 2015 and 2021 we had just 2 strong seasons from Carson plus maybe half a decent season from Rawls. With Walker gone, RB has to be an utmost priority now

To pay K9 $15M means we don't have as much money to pay other guys, especially on D. It's a trade-off, and we'd mostly be rewarding him for 2025, rather than paying for the next 3 years. Yes, the running game will be worse w/o him. But he had some clear deficiencies in pass blocking and receiving, and his first 3 years were a bit disappointing. He did step it up when we needed him (also his contract year). Time to turn the page. It was nice while it lasted.

I agree with not paying him $15 million per year. With that said though, I started this thread on November 2 saying back then they need to retain him. I know it would’ve been a risk, but I would’ve much rather re-signed him then at a much lower price than losing him now in free agency.

My take is that the Chiefs simply bid the cost up too high, considering the need to reserve enough capital to give extensions to both JSN and Witherspoon.

Walker did well enough at the end of the year to make me want to keep him, too. But at the end of the day, I can still see Seattle's logic in letting him go. I just hope we draft a RB high to replace him.

A comment I heard today that made me laugh when a National media member was analyzing the move for the Chiefs. Said that Walker had less than 1000 touches so that means he had less wear and tear. Dude didn't realize a part of that was because until this year, Walker never stayed healthy for the full season.

i would also say we tried to get cute drafting them, Carson was the same way he just panned out. Competition and types of offense matter. I would also state a RB that never has to break tackles looks great running 250 yards a game, but is that him or his O line. Penny I think fit that profile.
