I put this in the game day chat last night but I’ll say it again. This offense would be much worse without Walker. He is averaging 4.5 yards per carry this year and Charbonet is averaging 2.8. The run blocking is not great so I think Walker takes a lot of heat when a lot of of it is not his fault. My only knock on him is health but again, I can’t picture this offense doing well without him.

Too much money..guy in the 5th round. We have people to pay. Average rb.
I think people are misjudging our offensive lines ability to run block. I actually think he’s done a great job, considering the lack of holes being opened up for him.

We didn’t learn with Alexander? The only rb we have had in the last 2.5 decades that was a must re-sign was lynch. Invest long term in the o line and invest short term draft capital in running backs (unless you find the next Lynch). Talented running backs aren’t as hard to find as many make it out to be. Talented rb who are also true football players are.

I'm sure they would like K9 to stay, but I'm fairly certain they'll let him test the FA waters first and then see if the best offer is worth at least matching...🤷‍♂️
Agreed. My guess is he's gone after this season.

Other RB FAs (who may or may not be a better fit in the scheme):

I felt Chris Carson was pretty damn good before the injury.

With regard to the draft, I wonder if they could go for Coleman or Notre Dames RB Love. I'm not sure what round they'll go but feel like there is always decent RB's somewhere in the draft.

While I'll agree that K9 is an above average back who can be down right explosive at times, I also agree that our focus should be on investing in the offensive line and keeping Sam as clean as possible.

Losing K9 would undoubtedly be tough, but replacing him with a RB who may not be as explosive but is still solid and cheaper than what it would take to retain him seems like the right move for this team.

An above average line will make an average running back look above average while also providing better pass protection. In my opinion it is easier to find quality running backs than OL. On top of that, the line needs to be "gel". The running back will fit with a good line much quicker than a new lineman will improve the line. All of it says invest in the trenches over above average running back with few exceptions (Lynch, Henry, Peterson, LT and McCaffrey are the ones that immediately come to mind over the last two decades.)

I'd say no to the opening premise of tis thread.

Sadly Walker has proven to be not that truly special. One injury after and have left him being ineffective or limited in his ability to break those early big gain that opened his career here.

Simply put he's #1 talent with a 2nd class ability to stay healthy. The team can do better with one of the later round RBs. In fact our team has a player on IRPS that could be a capable replacement.

For me unless his play significantly improves I'd be a seller.

Retain only if team friendly deal which translates to he wants to stay and outside offers are meh. Rb just is way down the priority list.

Repeating again, without Walkerthis offense would not be nearly as good. No way would I trust the running game to Charbonet and another average back. Walker and Charbonet are the perfect compliment to each other.
