I've went through a rollercoaster of opinions on whether the team should give K9 a second contract. First, I wanted them to give him a 2nd one, then with his injuries, and the fact that he plays a devalued position, I was very skeptical they would, and now I'm back on the "extend him" train.

K9 is very talented, and he brings a skill set that not every RB has. RB's like Charbonnet are a dime-a-dozen, RB'S like K9 aren't, so I wouldn't be betting that they're gonna find a K9 duplicate in the draft.

From what I heard, Jeremiah Love is the best but then a huge drop-off after him.

So he definitely won't be there at #32 anyway.

Best to focus on CB or EDGE, and re-sign K9.

K9 was mediocre for the 1st half of the year. He was certainly great in the playoffs

If they lose him, they better get a good replacement since I don’t know if it’s a good idea to rely solely on Darnold’s arm

Yeah last year was supposed to be deep. Too bad Martinez didn’t work out but they definitely knew this was coming

I am a huge K9 fan and got a signed jersey of his a couple years ago. My only worry is that this is the first year he hasn't missed time due to injury. You have to wonder if that is due to the timeshare or because it was a contract year so maybe he played through stuff he hadn't before...I like Charbonnet as well but they are different runners and K9 just brings that burst to the table that threatens a big play every time he touches the ball. Maybe he has just figured out how to keep his body right in the NFL and how to hit the hole with decisiveness. Before Charbonnet got injured I didn't think there was any way that we were going to resign Walker but now I am not sure we can afford to let him go. We have a decent stable of RB's but no one else that has the potential that Walker has and the fact that he is only 25 makes me less hesitant to lock him up to a 3-5 year deal since it seems like most RB's don't start declining until about 30.

Well I think with Fleury, he would adapt and basically use the Tight-ends in place of a missing running game if push comes to shove.

Still, though, it would be far more optimal to re-sign K9.

In the off chance we don't sign him and he goes else where, Hawks better get a RG and possibly a bruising center.

The to pay or not to pay K9 coupled with the Charbs injury is not a "desperate times issue."

Just sign FA RB Brian Robinson Jr. (BRob, CMC's backup) and use a draft pick if the right guy falls to us. Plenty of other FA's to look at too. Just open your eyes.

6-1, 225, 26 years old.
3rd rnd, #98, 2022, Alabama.
Rush 2729 yds 17TD 4.1 avg
Rec 612 yds TD 5
Return 378 yds

Another 2 birds with one stone.

Williams gets a deal done with the Cowboys. He had 1201 yards last season. $16 mill guaranteed and 3 years $24 mill. This should help us with negotiations.

Sportrac gave him a market value of $7.3m and K9 $9.0m. If we can get Walker for $9-10m per annum we should definitely keep him, my concern is someone will pay a lot more than that because he is a Super Bowl MVP.

Everyone has a price at which point you have to say we are better off with him, if we have to let K9 go with Charbs out we need a decnt RB to replace him. Price is being talked about as a 2nd round pick though I don't know enough about him but there are plent of FA we could be looking at to replace Walker if required, Williams was one I was thinking of but there are plenty of others, if we can be sure he is not too much of an injury risk I like JK Dobbins, he averages over 5 yards a carry but the likes of Hall, White, Etienne and Dowdle would all be able to give us an effective run game even if are not quite as good as Walker.

Hit the nail on the head IMO
just all about the price

Okay, I'm confused here.

The guy got 16 million guaranteed, right?

Isn't that like....bad for us?

You jumped down my throat for earlier agreeing for 15 million guaranteed for K9.

This is the post (see below) that I replied to earlier where I answered : "Bare minimum."

Notice it said "15 guaranteed"? As in I was agreeing that K9 should get 15 million guaranteed (implying whatever contract he signs, he'll get 15 mil guaranteed of whatever the total contract he signs for is).
15 guaranteed?

Did you perhaps think I was implying 15 mill per year or something crazy? 😂

Of course I agree that K9 is a 9-11 mil per player.

He's very good but he's no Derrick Henry.

speaking of which :
That's at Henry's salary..
okay...so I went back and looked at the sequence of responses and there was a misunderstanding.

I was agreeing with 15 million guaranteed money when I said "bare minimum", not advocating for 15 million per year.

K9 is absolutely NOT Derrick Henry.

Only problem is you just named all of the free agents that will probably get $$ in the same ballpark as Walker. White and Dowdle maybe not, but if we're talking a couple mil/yr I'd much rather resign K9. Dobbins? No. Is Robinson anybody's 1st choice? Washington traded him for a 6th. And the rest of the FA crowd is a bunch of has-beens and never-was's. But like you alluded to if someone offers Walker a bag you may have to let him walk.

30 for 3 years 15 garanteed. Even if the third year sucks and dont get paid... in my scenario. He gets paid 15 period.

To clarify, but I think we are in agreement.

They all have a similar market value to Walker because they are expected to produce a similar amount. Hall is probably a little higher and the others a little lower. If we can get Walker for around his market value then we absolutely should give him a new contract.

The scenario I was talking about is if someone is willing to pay Walker way more than his market value. They could see the play-off run and think he is able to perform as an elite workhorse and offer $15m p.a. or more. Given the choice of Walker on $15m+ p.a. or Hall on $10m or Etienne on $7m p.a. I would be looking at getting a free agent.

So yes, Walker has a market value of about $9m, depending on the contract length and guarantees I would be fine with us paying up to about $12m but if we need to go higher we should let him walk. If he does walk however we should not be relying on Holani and a late draft pick until Charbs returns but pay the $ to get a decent FA (or trade)

Yes. Nice summary. I agree that is pretty much the scenario.

I think transition tags are useless. I believe the Seahawks should use the franchise tag on him and then negotiate a longer term contract with KW. Franchise tag for rbs are fairly reasonable unlike some other positions.
