Free Agency is how losers build football teams. No team has won, let alone competed for a Super Bowl by building their team and plugging multiple holes through big money deals in free agency.
It's true that you can't build a championship team through FA, but no team has won a championship in the modern era while sucking at drafting.
It really seems like Schneider is running out of excuses and time. He can't cut it running our drafts, and he can't cut it in FA.
Being afraid to fix problems doesn't put us any closer to a championship. Every time Schneider opens his mouth he basically admits that he isn't good enough.
If he won't fix problems through the draft, and he won't fix problems through free agency, then what other option is there?

A combination of FA, draft and trading are all avenues needed to build or maintain a roster.

If we are talking about the IOL contracts given out so far, imo none of them have been way over the top. Even the 5 years on fries is just a 2 year obligation albeit quite a bit of guaranteed for those 2 years - 7th most guaranteed to a guard currently.
Aaron Banks was overpaid imo but none of these contracts should hurt a franchise.

Here is what the teams are obligated to in years and guaranteed money for the top FA IOL this offseason:

Drew Dalman 2yr / $28M
Will Fries 2yr / $44M
Aaron Banks 1yr / $27M
James Daniels 1yr / $10.7M
Kevin Zeitler 1yr / $8.75M
Mekhi Becton (2yr / $20M total, no details yet)

Daniels, Becton and Zeitler were very good deals imo. I imagine Jenkins will only command a similar deal. OC Dalman was a good deal also.

The problem is, we have consistently operated under these parameters for nearly a decade. New QB. 3rd QB behind a line that can't protect. Stagnant run game. A top WR group retarded by aforementioned. TOP discrepancy, extra pressure on defense. Poor 3rd down %.

Here and there
He HAS TO KNOW, he's on the hot seat if that O-line isn't fixed. How can he not invest this draft, and I'm still in disbelief that little has been done to beef it up so far. I'm interested to know what his master plan is in the end.

Then why did he refuse to come have a physical here? F this guy. If you don't wanna' come play in Seattle, piss off.
I want players who WANT to play here.
It never got that far due to negotiations. One team wanted a physical one did not. That had nothing to do with team loyalty, but negotiations among agents.

Jamal Adams, Nate Odoms, Percy Harvin, just a few that had injuries and then secondary issues that kind of hurt us signing them, John is a little gun shy I imagine about guys coming off injuries or having something that just ain't right about them. He said he has learned from past mistakes, I am thinking this is one of them, oh not to mention the two LB's we brought in last year as well.

Kupp has had injuries. He's missed 5, 4 and 8 games in the last 3 seasons. Doesn't matter to me, glad we signed him, just saying to be fair.

You would think so, but actions speak louder than words and how do I just freaking know he won't go IOL with his first pick? I'm telling you now he won't do it. Maybe second round, maybe third round, but he won't do it in the first round.

Well there is something to be thankful for in that chart, seeing the Cowboys there at the bottom puts a smile on my face :)
Not just at the bottom.... they have DOUBLED UP the next worst team. 🤣

Ravens are cap strapped and like the Chiefs they have to be judicious with how they use cap space due to QB contracts respectively. Steelers do not have a QB that would hamstring them but they also haven't drafted well where they can hand an OL a second contract.

Seahawks are in a unique situation where they do not have a franchise QB under contract, and do have several OL on rookie contracts that in theory should earn second contracts. We will see.....

MVS and Kupp are walking talking zombies of injuries but he didn't hesitate to sign either one while OL has to be in tip top shape to be signed? At some point put forward a heavily incentive laden deal based on games played and you can land an OL that cane help this team out. Worst case scenario is you still can turn to a Sundell, Laumea or Haynes if they go out. Best case scenario is you have a competent OL on contract and buys you time to develop players like Laumea and Haynes to be starters in 2026 or 2027.

It was more like they told him "if you accommodate our unusual request to make you wait a few days until we can legally poke and prod you, we might be willing to give you $38m less than the offer you currently have on the table. If we change our minds during that time, hopefully the Vikings havn't yet moved on and will still give you the same money."

I look forward to when we dont address the OL until late day 2 of the draft, and then some report comes out that we offered the Bears a 6th round pick to move up into the top ten. His same sycophants on here would be going "See? He TRIED to trade up for an OL! What do you expect him to do?".

Kupp may get a pass due to all the "intangibles" JS loves and looks for. Those may have outweighed the injury stuff.

I realize you're frustrated, most of us are. But you don't know this is how it went down.
Educated guess based on the facts. Not knowing 100% isn't stopping anyone (like you) from assuming he was scared he wouldn't pass a physical.

You would think he knows. Maybe his arrogance is even greater than we realize, and he thinks he can keep getting away with it.
If our OL sucks again this year it means Darnold probably won't play very well, and with mediocre QB and OL play we will probably have a mediocre run game. I can easily see the season unravel due to the OL, and it would make his other moves look bad. If he doesn't fix the OL this season I think he's gone.

Better coaching, continuity and another year of experience should make the OL better

Really? After all your responses lately about jumping to conclusions and fans posting opinions not based on facts or evidence. You really are on mission to shoot down all these post's that are worried about the offensive line. Whatever fits your agenda.
If he signs a guy with injury history it must be because this that and the other but if he doesn't sign a guy then it was because he wasn't comfortable with his injury history.

It's nice that you have confidence that the new scheme/coaching and maybe the draft will be enough, not everyone does.
