That's good compensation if you weren't going to pay anyway and the fact remains Geno is 34. His window is closing and if we are going full rebuild... which, it really looks like, he probably won't be a viable starter once that time is up.
Why do people think that cutting Locket, trading Geno, and possibly trading DK means we're going "full rebuild" ?
Geno wasn't anything special, and he no longer qualified as cheap.
Lockett's saved cap space can be better used.
DK is overrated and will never reach his potential here.

Improving the OL helps the passing game and running game, so a major improvement on OL would make up for a slight downgrade at QB and DK, especially if we're going to be doing a lot more running.

I don't see us rebuilding, just re-allocating our resources while also getting a little younger.

Howell will not be our starting QB unless he plays like one, but ceiling/floor for him is very good for a backup on a rookie contract. They won't extend him unless he proves he's worth extending. Not sure why some people are still so butthurt about the *backup* QB.
Because he is 🗑

And a long term deal...is he that much better than we already had?
He isn't necessarily better than Geno, but there are some advantages:
1. Younger
2. Not as demanding for $$$
3. Not as demanding to be the offensive focal point

Geno wants the $$$ and the focus to help make up for his low earning for the first half of his career. He also wants the offense to be about him so that he and his agent can justify demanding lots of $$$.

Geno would've become locker room cancer if we didn't extend him and we moved to a more balanced offense that reduces his stats. If the Hawks were committed to running the ball then it almost required getting rid of Geno.

I can't dismiss the Darnold possibility but it seems pretty unlikely. It makes most sense to just suck this year while freeing up cap space to sign OL and defense help and use the top pick for a QB in the 2026 draft.

I really don't understand how people think we are talking, lol. We just unloaded an OK qb for a 3rd round pick, which gives us another option to build the team better. Geno gave us the same thing, year in year out.. You got your good Geno and your bad Geno. Sometimes we saw "what in the hell are you doing" Geno. Glad they decided to see what other options are available.

People view Geno as near elite so they think it’s unthinkable to trade him unless you’re rebuilding. I don’t agree with that but that’s why you will see that train of thought

This shocks me more than the possibility of DK being gone. I would have thought we'd get more than a 3rd but some of you hear seem to think it's a good return
I’m here. And it’s a crazy good return. Old qb wanting lots of dough and commitment who is as consistent as a stress menstruation for a (presumably) high 3rd

We will call it a low second because it makes me feel even better

Edit: it’s a low 3rd but still

Hawkblogger seems to suggest from people he has spoke to that there is no market for Sam Darnold and there's a good chance we can get him cheap if thats the path we go.
There is no market for a reason. Why would we want him if nobody else does?
