A very damning stat for Ryan Grubb

These DVOA numbers pass the eyeball test for me. And I'd be shocked if these metrics weren't in Macdonald's field of awareness. For what it's worth, Schneider has referenced DVOA a few times over the years. Check out this FieldGulls article if you have a few moments. Unless this is dramatically turned around, I can't imagine Grubb is back next year. This offense just doesn't "complete the circle" (as Pete used to say) for a defense that has improved so dramatically in recent weeks.

"No stat is more indicative of how bad the Seahawks offense has been than this article from FTN Fantasy’s Aaron Schatz, aka the godfather of DVOA. When splitting performance in half(ish) from Weeks 1-6 to Weeks 7-13, no offense has had a more pronounced dip in efficiency than the Seahawks.

Biggest Offensive Declines:
Seattle from 9.1% (10) to -18.3% (32)
Atlanta from 14.8% (7) to -2.4% (19)
Indianapolis from 2.1% (14) to -14.8% (26)
San Francisco from 17.3% (5) to 1.3% (17)
Over the totality of the season, the Seahawks offense is 20th overall (17th pass, 25th rush) but 23rd in weighted DVOA, which de-emphasizes early-season games."

At this point, the only good thing I can say about Grubb without any reservations is he seems to use JSN effectively.

'' While the offensive line is certainly a major culprit for the poor showings win or lose, this is neither the first bad offensive line nor even the most egregiously poor offensive line the Seahawks have within the last 10 seasons. These are the worst results we’ve seen out of any Seahawks offense since Darrell Bevell’s first season in 2011, when the Seahawks were 20th overall (19th pass, 20th rush). Of course, Seattle leveled up the following year by drafting Russell Wilson, providing an instant upgrade from Tarvaris Jackson and Charlie Whitehurst. I don’t think there are too many quarterbacks above Geno Smith who can overcome the deficiencies of this year’s offense. "

That about sums it up.

JSN benefits greatly from defenses playing over the top on the side of wherever DK lines up. Because DK demands a deep safety, JSN, is damn near unguarded underneath. Teams largely attempt bracket coverage with linebackers and corners to funnel JSN into coverages but JSN is savvy enough to understand leveraged and he largely finds holes between these coverages.

Take away DK and JSN will find it more difficult to get open. It’s as if Grubb uses a mix of baiting defenses to pull with DK and stretch the field so JSN can thrive underneath. If DK can improve his intermediate routes he can help JSN run more deep routes and you would see post and post corners more so with JSN.

DK def. gets some double teams and safety help. Can only help JSN and the TE's underneath. I would love to see Geno do a little more dink and dunk stuff, take what the defense gives you etc. Russ had the same issue. Can't always be the long ball or the home run ball.
And no, this is not a shot at Geno, just something I'd love to see more from him and offense.

It all starts with Grubb. You cant accurately evaluate the O line or the Qb with a scheme and coaching as obviously suspect as this.
But the oline has played better for weeks now and production if anything has gone down. I think that is partly Grubb and partly the QB not pulling the trigger. It's not all Grubb.

I'm baffled that we just excuse execution 100% and put 100% on the OC.

What about the Rams game when DK was out. 180 yards and 2 tuddies. He got open all day long.

Back to Grubb, less of a fan every week.

Armed with my untrained eyes, and online stats, I have been calling for the dismissal of Grubb or at least take play-calling from him for more than a month now. I must confess that I had never heard of him before the hiring and loved the idea of fresh approach.

But our offense declined under coach Grubb, to toffee the homer, that is time to change.

This is where I'm at. I've been willing to give him the benefit of the doubt, but this past game was some uninspiring BS.

that TD that Charbonnett won the game with though.... Misdirection, crunch time, run up the gut for the WIN. picking up the special teams and delivering when the D shut them down.
This is true. But it doesn't forgive the goal line debacle with four or five very ineffective pass plays.
