Those are Journeyman QBs at that point in their career.

Earlier in their careers, they would be considered Franchise QBs.

The only journeyman in that group was Moon.

Kirk Cousins is also 36, as is Andy Dalton. Funny enough, I thought Dalton would be like 40.

Geno at 34 next month should have a good 3-4 years of good play left. He has pretty low mileage too.

I said no, but only because he still gives me stop gap vibes. Thay's not a knock on his ability, just the situation he's in at the moment. I'd rather not give him another contract, he's sign through next season. Maybe another year added, but drafting someone would be ideal (and infinitely more difficult, lol). DK/JSN/Cross gonna eat some cap, a rookie would really offset those contracts.

Dalton has been washed since he was like 31. Would be awesome if Geno was the next Rich Gannon, but I'm guessing more like Ryan Tannehill.

I'm hoping we don't see Howell the entire season, for obvious reasons. Other than mop up duty in a blowout. Or a victory formation because the Hawks were up enough to let Geno chill in the 4th quarter. That would be good

I was a bit curious about oldest QB's in the NFL since we are comparing to Geno's current age. ( Had to mention Geno to make this relevant

The former Chicago Bears quarterback, George Blanda, is graded the oldest player and quarterback to ever play in the league, retiring at age 48 in 1976. Wow, that's getting up there close to needing a cane age group ...sarcastically speaking.

There was a photo I saw somewhere of Geno last season vs him this season and he's significantly more chiseled. Dude looked like he was a completely different person.

No, I understand. I appreciate that. I'm just saying there's a common fallacy across athletics that because Player A (who by default is a huge exception compared to his peers) made it to such-and-such age, then we can reasonably expect that Player B has a chance to as well. Take Wilson who was loud about playing into his 40's, then fell off a cliff in his early 30's.

Moon moved around a bit but I think he was more than a journeyman. He had a HOF championship career in the CFL before playing for Houston.This was before the NFL embraced black QBs.

Yeah, that was a thing.

He was an elite passer.I remember watching him in the Kingdome and mentioned to a friend that I thought he threw one of the nicest deep balls I'd ever seen.
Yeah , it could've been the drugs and alcohol but still.

I'm not saying that at all. He could be the heir apparent. I like what Seattle does with the QB position. The get safe bet reclamation projects instead of gambling on a media darling coming out of college where the game is played differently.

True, but I think what people forget was how much running was a part of his success early on and he's not really doing that anymore. Take the running away and he becomes a height challenged pocket passer.

Yeah, I think Sam looked pretty good in the preseason. Give him A few years behind Geno to really learn the offense and to learn from a veteran.

Geno may have been a backup prior to getting his shot here, but he did sit behind Eli Manning, Philip Rivers, and Russ, which isn't bad at all. I'm sure he can share some of that with Sam.

And, from early on, all of the problems in Wilson's game were rightly recognized and seen as being masked by the things he was good at, and it was pointed out that he would inevitably lose those features that masked his weaknesses. Geno's strengths are in the areas that allow QBs to have longer careers than average.

I'm of the opinion that much of the drop off in QB physical ability is not an inevitable age related issue, but an issue of hunger to excel. Exercise physiology research is starting to back up the idea that much of the decline is not inevitable, but it may take more work to maintain it at 50 than 40 than 30. When the accolades are largely behind you, it becomes harder and harder to show up for the kind of physical training required to maintain elite fitness. With many of the accolades still ahead of him, I see Geno maintaining his physical fitness for more of his life span than most. Will that translate into him being able to play at a top ten level into his 40s? Possibly. It will be interesting to see. Yet another of Wilson's goals that Geno steals from him.

He's younger than Russell Wilson, who turns 36 this year.

And Wilson has been done for years now. Not a great example. Let's just be honest, the guy is up there in a young man's sport.
