Yes. You can't have stretches where not one player can get on base , let alone manufacturer runs. They have enough talent to be in a better position. The best pitching in MLB.
No excuse for failing year after year. They gave Servais a long time although I don't place all of it on him. This is a poorly ran organization.
They won 90 games, 90 games, and 88 games the past 3 seasons. I know that's not among the top teams in MLB, but it's not far off. If you can improve that just a little bit, you're 100% a playoff team, and likely a division winner.
I get that everyone hated the alarming number of K's last season, but that offense also scored the 12th most runs in baseball. That should be good enough if you have a top pitching staff. It would definitely be good enough if you could improve that just a little bit.
Instead of improving the offense by picking up 1 or 2 solid bats, Dipoto got rid of Teo, Geno, and Kelenic, and replaced those guys with Garver, Polanco, Haniger, and Urias. Teo and Geno were our 2 most productive players not named Julio. Those moves are 100% on Dipoto.
This team was a lot closer after the past 2 seasons than many seem to realize. All Dipoto needed to do was add a solid bat or 2 and
not get rid of some of our most productive players. That's it. But instead of doing that, he got rid of 3 of our most productive hitters and replaced them with a bag of dicks.
This heinously bad offense, this season, is 100% on Dipoto. He dismantled an offense that was close to top 10 in runs scored, and replaced it with arguably the worst offense in MLB. No manager is going to be successful if that is what they are given to work with. Servais got sabotaged by his own GM, and now he's being scapegoated by that same GM.
Don't get me wrong, I'm fine moving on from Servais (although this mess is clearly not his fault). But there is no way in hell Dipoto should be allowed to keep his job at this point. Not after he botched this past off season as badly as he did.
