I'm a little ambivalent. He played great at the end of last year but he wasn't even a starter for most of that season. I expect big things going forward!

Source: Safety Julian Love and the Seahawks reached agreement on a three/year extension worth up to $36 million. The deal was negotiated by Drew Rosenhaus, Jason Rosenhaus and Ryan Matha.




Other than for cap space surely its a position we want to draft instead over the next couple of years?

Love's versatility is valuable though as he is a glue guy on the backend that can do it all. Love along with Spoon can really disguise many looks without needing to change that much personnel or subs.

I think Mac has input on what he wants to keep around long term to turn around this defense.

It's a good move for the Hawks to do this now. Plus it's probably back loaded with the option to cut ties if it doesn't work out. John has been doing alot of that with his contracts lately.

To me, this is a good move. This is a value move. He will be worth more than this contract.

When he was in i definitely felt less worried with him. He didn’t look lost, played hard and was usually always around the ball.

Our head coach is a defensive expert. If he thinks signing a player to a long-term deal is right, I am not going to question it, especially with his defensive knowledge.

Seems like a good signing to me. He was our best safety last season and is just entering his prime.

It's also worth noting that Love started most of last season and was tied for the third-most snaps on defense. So, he was an integral part of our defense—only Bobby had more tackles.

The words "up to $36 million" are likely doing some heavy lifting here (possible incentives), and when the final numbers come out Love may be making closer to $10 million per year

Exactly this. Last year, this signing would have been 'who knows, but I doubt they have a plan'. This year, Macdonald sees something he needs.

This^^^ we had 36mil tied up in 2 safety’s last year. Diggs/Adams had to completely bomb to let Love show what he could do. I’m cool with this.
