He wasn’t starting because the old regime was dedicated to digs and Adams who they had money committed to. Every time love came in. He played well. I think he won us a couple games last year.
To me, this is a good move. This is a value move. He will be worth more than this contract.
Love definitely cemented the win for Drew Lock vs Philly IIRC, with that fantastic sideline pick.

Also, recall on Spoon's pick-6 TD (vs NYG?), that Love sprinted downfield, caught up to Spoon like he was standing still, and made the final block/obstruction to seal the TD for Spoon. Conclusion: Love is one of the fastest players in the NFL.

It's a 3 year extension worth up to $36M. It's not a 3 year/$36M contract. He was under contract for 1 year at $5M. He is now under contract for 4 years at up to $41M. He probably has a 2 year guarantee with an early bonus in year 3. The alternative was to have an unhappy player who could leave after 2024. The 2023 S franchise tag is over $17M.

Here and there

I'm a little ambivalent. He played great at the end of last year but he wasn't even a starter for most of that season. I expect big things going forward!
I want to blame it on the coaching staff at the time..but then again..that's just me. Underutilized!

otc.com has posted the details of Love's contract extension... Here

They're calling it a 3-year, $33M extension... and one of the immediate benefits is Love's 2024 cap number was lowered by $1.6M.,, was $8.1, now $6.5M.

The team's cap space is now at $10.1M.

They've got it as a net 4 year $41.09M contract. Love gets $11.95M cash in 2024 but the cap hit goes down from $8.09M to $6.5M. He's only due $6.035M in 2025 and only $1.2M of that is guaranteed. There's also an additional $680K in per game appearance money. None of the money for years 3 & 4 is guaranteed. If things go totally wrong the Seahawks can get away from him after 2024 at a total cost of $13.15M.

Essentially they're rewarding him with 1 year's increased money for him outperforming his contract. If his play drops back to previous expectations they can keep or cut him at $4.835M above guarantees for 2024. The implication is they'll reward him again for 2025 with another pay hike if he continues to play like he did in 2023. A sensible contract and it's well structured.

The only thing I didn't follow is what I bolded above.

How did you arrive at him being due $6.035M in 2025?

His 2025 base salary is $1.2M plus his per game roster bonus of $680,000 (or $40,000 per game), which equals $1.88M for the year by my calculations.

There is a non-guaranteed $4.835M roster bonus in 2025 that will treated as another signing bonus. IE it will be accounted for equally over 3 years for cap purposes.
