I don’t think calling a pass with 2 more downs to go and a timeout remaining was the wrong move. Throwing into the middle of the field to your 4th/5th receiver was. Doug said he wasn’t even in the route concept. You would think if they’re gonna pass in that situation, it would be a safe pass to Baldwin and give him a chance or we got 2 downs with beast to win. Truly amazing all around. That DB made an amazing read and play.
Yeah I liked the way Doug broke it down in that the strategy wasn't bad. I've always thought this but hated the specific play call.

The one thing that perplexes me the most is how it was on 2nd down. Granted if the play call worked in the Seahawks favor and they scored I would be praising it. Ying and Yang

In a lofty place tanglin' with Satan over history.

"Too cute" / overthinking = "Pass it to Ricardo f'n Lockette on a goofy goal line slant! They'll NEVER see it coming!" Doomed from inception.

Let the record reflect, once and for all that the failure of our team over the years, our offense, team chemistry and culture, wqs rooted not in Ciara coming on the scene. , not in a meddling coach, not in OCs who couldn't call plays, or a scheme that was too vanilla.

The team collapsed because #3 was given a license to fail at his job, and his HC sacrificed the culture he created (in mandating #3 not be openly held accountable for his failures by not just the players on defense, but the offense as well) so that he could protect his qb from criticism and allow the team to be molded around him.

It is sooo infuriating to hear player after player now report essentially the same thing and especially for Doug (one of my all time favorites) to admit the frustration he felt at working his butt off to perfect his craft and have it so often be for nothing when plays that should have worked, didn't, because the guy most responsible for making them work didn't do his job correctly and then wasn't held accountable for it... AND THEN, to have to be told that it would also be frowned upon to address the issue directly with that player... that's so depressing. And so unfortunate that Pete allowed that environment and those special circumstances to exist for one player. While others who genuinely walked the line of accountability and worked everyday to get better, to elevated themselves and the team, were left to wonder why it was even worth it.

I can't think of a parallel for what happened to our team and what continues to still happen now in the storm that has followed #3 to Denver. For Russ to in reality have been so flawed at his job that it garnered the degree of resentment that it obviously did, and still for him to have seen the statistical success that he has AND have created what was until recently, an image of himself that was of a player at the top of his craft, an elite qb, and a God fearing, good doing man.

He is smoke and mirrors embodied.

But if you actually let all of the pieces finally sit... push them together, the picture you see of the dude demystifies everything that's happening in Denver now and that happened to our team post SB victory. Russ has never been able to play the position the way it should be played. He played it his way and forced the offense to follow him - follow him on his highlight real, MVP pursuit, and follow him through, at times (too often) bewildering 3 and out futility.

Russ won his champiosnhip and the success went to his head. Not his wife. He early on, became more concerned with his image than actually winning. And when the most important player on the team is flawed in that way, nothing good will come of it.

Russ isnt over the hill now. He's not punch drunk. He's simply exposed. This is who he's been, just without the shield Pete placed in front of him and the blanket he draped on his shoulders. It's stunning how completely he deluted even himself into believing his own myth (he ASKED to be where he is now), and remarkable how much of the football watching world he fooled.

@toffee - you should post a link to the podcast on the Broncos forum.

What I dont get is how Pete allowed this and then wants to
A little misleading lol. Lynch also had high praise for Wilson and called him one of the toughest football players ever who he loves like a brother. Obviously they're two wildly different personalities so its not a shock they're not super close as friends but the mutual respect was massive. Sherman tried to get Lynch to crap on Wilson and he wouldn't do it, to Lynch's credit.....he's a stand up guy.

I think Lynch doesnt care much about the result because he gave it his all regardless of the outcome and he can live with that. I dont think he cared about winning as much as Sherm, Baldwin, Earl etc. I know I 100% would have accepted a loss if they ran it 4 straight times with Lynch and they stopped us. There was absolutely no need for any stupid trickery or intelligence at that point in the game with the kind of team we had. We just needed to hop on the back of Lynch to get us into that endzone.

Can someone point me to a video of ANY of the defensive players from that team "taking accountability" for squandering that (10 point?) lead? I'm sure it exists, I just don't recall ever seeing it.
We had Tharold Simon at CB and Cliff Avril went out as well. Thats how we gave up 10 points. We had key injuries on defense. Everyone on that defense would tell you that every starter played a key role in making that defense so legendary. It wasnt just about one player thinking they could carry the team like a ceryain someone.

Also, the offensive gameplan was really horrific. They targeted Doug Baldwin once, they took Chris Matthews out who was having the game of his life and finally decided to throw it to our worst wide receiver. Everyone world have accepted the loss if we gave it our best plays utilizing our best players but that didnt happen and Pete's dumbass never took any accountability for that dumb play. He just gave some lame excuse that we wanted to be aggressive. Aggressive by putting together a playcall with the worst personnel you could think of? It wasnt even a damn play action pass! You had Jermaine Kearse trying to pick Brandon Browner.....

If my memory is right, and that's a huge if, it was actually a miracle that Earl Thomas even played with some of the injuries he was dealing with earlier in the season as well. I believe it was a dislocated shoulder that he sustained that limited him.

Pete took accountability for calling that play. However in reality it was Bevell who called the play and set personnel grouping. Then Bevell tried to throw players, specifically Lockette, under the bus. Pete’s mistake was continuing to stick by Bevell. Should have fired him (Bevell) on the spot.

Yup, the defense played amazing for what they were working with. The offense didnt uphold their part. I remember Russ saying that he would throw the same exact pass to Lockette even if they had a do over. That pissed me off. He could have just said I just went with the call or dont say nothing at all.

@keasley45 could you please show your screen shots from this play again, specifically the one where Lockette is wide open with a blocker in front of him when the pass actually should have been thrown?

It clearly shows that the play call was not as bad as most point out. It also clearly shows that it wasn't the receiver group that was the problem. What it clearly shows was that Sweezy and Unger got pushed into the passing lane and that Giacominni was also not stout enough. Wilson had to throw late and into traffic, because that side of the line failed to do their job. Honestly I should have saved the picture, but was on my phone at the time.

I can’t believe Edelman didn’t get pulled. That was such a load of BS. Just more of the Patriots cheating BS. Also people forget that after the pick the Pats were on the 1 yard line. The center did a serious head bob to pull us offsides.
They should have been called for the penalty instead of us. We still had a chance at that point but more cheating by the Pats stopped that.

I mean, it's not the 1st time #3 missed a window. Usually he'd just hold onto the ball and run around until coverage broke or he was sacked for negative 15 yards. Like this, to the other Lockett. Wide open, on a hot read. Easy pickup of a 1st down. Was a sack. And the other one to the TE who wqs so open he waved for like 5 yards. Instead, Russ panicked and tossed a bomb out of bounds.

We need to win another super bowl to get this awful taste out of our mouths... Or at the very least make it to another one just to say the Seahawks got back.
