Geno Smith real deal? ...or just a flash?

The folks that don't like Geno will never be persuaded otherwise. Their minds are made up forever. No amount of hard data will change that.

Why?

Because thirty percent of folks don't believe the facts when the facts stare them in the face. They only wish to make up their own facts and then incessantly cry censorship when they can't impose these made-up facts upon everyone else. Such folks have been conditioned to believe that their opinions are the equivalent of facts and since it is commonly believed that everyone is entitled to their own opinion, then everyone is entitled to their own facts. When such a belief system inevitably bleeds into every aspect of their personal lives, when persistent dissent to their world view is routinely encountered, this inevitably results in predictable incessant bitterness permeating their aura. Inexplicable anger and they can't pinpoint exactly why. Why is everyone seemingly always against them? Why is everyone seemingly trying to "cancel" them?

The answer to this is relatively easy. Made up facts (which are actually just opinions). About Geno.

Who doesn't like him? Just because someone isn't 100 percent sold that he's a top notch QB, that doesn't mean they don't like the guy. Geno is cool, I think most people like the guy. Since when is it taboo to ever say something about a QB that isn't to the level that he walks on water? He has plenty to improve on, like most QB's in the league.
He's a good QB, a good leader, and hopefully has a great season.

I like Geno simply because he is a hawk. Did a great job last year could be even better this year and maybe next, especially with some help. I don’t believe he is the long term answer and it’s ok-if we continue to build in other areas as needed. He is serviceable ,but one day very soon we will have to address a long term QB. It’s just part of the cycle. Hope the dude is the next Doug Williams story.

Geno is still a question mark in my book. I need a bigger sample size before going all in. He proved a lot of my thoughts about him wrong last season and also verified some of them too. He definitely has a much better arm and accuracy than I remembered. He also was a much better leader than I thought he would be. I still believe he is a system QB that falters when he is asked or needs to do more though. Again, I need to see more to form a solid opinion in terms of his ability to be clutch or not.

If there is a regression, I dont feel it will be enough to even mention. Same goes for improvement also. I feel he'll be hard pressed to improve on last years numbers, but those were pretty damn good. I guess I need to see him win more games and do something in the post season before I can classify him as anything more than a decent to sometimes good QB and yes, I realize its a team game and its not all about the QB.

I like Geno, he has a great attitude and is working hard to improve. Hopefully that effort will show on the field. And if not, not. I'm still of the opinion a leopard doesn't fundamentally change its spots, but it's certainly plausible that the spots can be enhanced and improved upon. Time will tell. Go Hawks!

MOST minds are made up about Geno and will likely never move off of their likes/dislikes for the guy, but y'all would be hard-pressed to find any other quarterback who's put in the work, and taken the criticisms in stride like he has.
If not Geno, who out there is AVAILABLE, realistically ready, willing & able to take his place, not miss a beat, gain the respect of his teammates like Geno has done?
Many of y'all have to admit that he had surpassed all expectations by a WIDE MARGIN last season.
OH AND, Genos' play isn't holding the Seahawks back, the problem (weakest link in the chain) is the DEFENSE.

We've been having these conversations since last season ended.

I honestly didn't see any part of Geno's play last year that would make me pause and say "yeah he played WAY over his head and probably won't be able to duplicate it next season."

- strong arm
- distributes on time and in rhythm
- adjusts at the line
- accurate
- leadership abilities

None of these are red flags that with Geno's experience and trust in the locker room would say to us "regression." In fact, now that he's had an entire year of starting, IMO there's no reason he wouldn't improve. Especially with a better and deeper supporting cast around him this year over last.

I've always liked Smith. I seen the potential with the jets. He was just in the wrong offensive system. What did it for me, when I knew Smith is the real deal is that game against the Rams when Wilson got hurt. Smith drove that team down and scored in like 2 minutes. Wilson struggled through that whole game.

These are the moments where I remember as thinking at the time-wow that cat is a BAMfer:

After four interceptions Russell Wilson overtime bomb for a game-winning touchdown to Kearse to get us to SB in 2015.

Dave Krieg sacked 9 times vs. chiefs to still win 17-16 in 1990.

Largent 's bone jarring revenge hit on Mike Hardin in 1988.

Beastquake run in 2010.

Marquand Manual jacking up Giants Jeremy Shockey in the end zone 2005, dude talked smack all game and got destroyed.

Golden Tate nearly taking off Cowboys MLB Sean Lee head on a cutback block in 2012.

Shaun Alexander winning MVP 2005.

DK running down Budda Baker in 2020.

Lofa Tatupu, Walter Jones, and Kam as a tone setter in the Broncos SB opening drive-enough said.

Sorry I just don't see Geno here yet. But maybe he will be in the future?

Just a feeling , I think Geno Smith is going top 5. I hope it's a slow , steady build up to the elite to keep the hype train to a minimum. Remember last season everyone was ready to get super bowl merch made up for the NY Jets ?

I would be lying if I said that I viewed that as anything other than the usual "teams not preparing for/having enough tape on a QB". Same way that our defense seemingly got fairly lit up by the likes of Mullens or whoever it was on the 9ers that one game. It's actually kind of surprising to read that sentiment from some of you. Geno looked "good", but nothing about his play inspired CONFIDENCE that everything was gonna be fine.

Nothing about Geno's 2022 season looked flukey other than he had a bit of good luck with avoided turnovers here and there. However, I can't fault some fans for being a little skeptical after a single season because there's a bunch of guys who have had a good year here or there but lacked consistency across seasons. If Geno does keep it up this season then he's definitely going to win a bunch of the skeptics over.

Mr. Smith has a great arm, nice balance of power and accuracy. Watch him drop dime, after dime, after dime on NO. He did it all year, but that game will show you every throw you'd ever want your top dog to make.

Decision making is thrown out a lot, sure, tighten it up. But, now you're looking at him throwing for 70+ comp%, 5000 yds and 40-50 tds. Madness, and maybe a bit much. However, I'll take that $#!& all day long, feed me some of that every week. I'd take last year Geno too (that was awesome).

TLDR; Geno awesome arm, make better throw. Win.

Geno has been working hard, has had the entire off-season to prepare, no distraction with contract stuff and is getting all the reps with #1s. There's a good argument to be made that he has every opportunity to be better than last year.

That said, on Brock n Salk, Pete said Geno doesn't need to do anything better or different than he did last year. If Geno made the same mistakes and also the same plays as '22 the improvement elsewhere on the team would win more games. Geno might not turn into a 4th Q killer, but that's ok. He might hit DBs in the numbers a few times...still ok. The team should be considerably better even if Geno doesn't improve his game at all. ...and if he does....
