TRT World, (Turkey), ran a fluff piece about him on Thursday/Friday saying he was an icon. They had someone I didn't recognise telling the audience, (in German), that it was inconceivable that there were currently 32 better QBs in the World. The fluff ended with the claim that Kaepernick could 1 day become POTUS. I like TRT as an alternative viewpoint, but damn!

I didn't have an issue with Kaepernick in the NFL in his playing days, but those days have ended. He's made no reasonable attempt to show that he's willing to do what is necessary to generate another NFL opportunity.

He never should have exercised his option to get out of his last contract. Talk about a FU move.

He bet on himself... and lost.
Strongly disagree. Kaepernick was going to be released the following month even if he hadn't opted out of his contract. If he had left it up to the 49ers they would have released him in April when most teams had already filled their roster. Kaepernick opting out gave himself the best chance of finding another team in the March free agency window. Unfortunately for him no team was interested in him at the price he set.

Wasn't kaep the backup at this point?
Is there a difference between opting out and being released by the team?

Honest question for anyone willing to answer.

I served in the military for 24 years and I’ve never had a problem with his political stance.

I swore to protect our rights…Including Freedom of Speech. I’d walk right by a group burning our flag. It’s not that “I’m ok” with it. But, part of what makes us who we are as Americans are our rights. You’ll never see me, my children, or any of my family members for that matter, disrespecting our flag. Close friends and family have died for those colors…

I don’t have a problem with Kaep when it comes to things outside of football. He was exercising his rights. I’ll reserve my personal, biased opinion on that matter.

He doesn’t have a job because he’s just not good enough. Plain and simple.

In Kaepernick's case the only difference was timing. Had Kaepernick remained on the roster in April $14.5M of his projected earnings would have become guaranteed. Kaepernick was a borderline starter at that point and he was returning from injury.

He had a least 4 offers post 9ers which he either turned down or blew up ie the girlfriend tweeting about the Raven‘s owner being a slave master & Ray Lewis a House n-word.

Actually, he didn’t have offers.

2017, the Seahawks have a phone call with him. It was reported that he wouldn’t agree not to kneel and/or demanded too much money and/or a true qb competition.

2018, some HOF Raven convinces the team to reach out. Kaep’s gf Nessa goes viral about how the Ravens owner is akin to a slave owner and the hof guy is an Uncle Tom.

2019, At least 25 teams pay to have a employee look at him. Kaep dumps that at the last minute and announces his own personal workout at the last minute. Eight teams went to even that, and he Didn’t get signed while one of his wide receivers did.

He might not have allowed it to go deep in negotiations, but he had Denver, Seattle, Baltimore, and reportedly at least one more team (after the last workout fiasco) opening talks.

As bad as Kaep flamed out he did have that one good year. He wasn’t great as a quarterback but he was better than Trey Lance will ever be. 200

That sounds precisely like betting on himself and losing. Not sure why you "strongly disagree."
