I don't think he was ever on the trajectory to take over in 2027 if Sam was even remotely DECENT as QB here (which he has been more than that by a mile). Only if Sam crashed and burned from day 1 could I have seen Milroe being shoved out there in 2027 (maybe sooner).

So when do you think they planned on starting him? 2028? No point in drafting a guy, and planning on sitting him for four years.

Obviously, there are a lot of things that can accelerate or delay the plan, but what do you think their plan was with Sam and Jalen, assuming Sam didn’t outperform or shit the bed, and neither did Jalen?

Not sure.

Maybe they would probably let Drew Lock walk and keep Milroe as Sam's backup? 🤔

I mean if they are still gung-ho thinking that Jalen won't turn into another JJ McBusto in Minnesota, they'll do that perhaps.

It can be hard to read the tea leaves.

Keeping in mind that Darnold was signed a month before the draft, my guess is that Milroe was a roll the dice selection, with a plan to let him learn under Darnold for two years. Any more than that, it’s a waste of a pick.

In the scenario, Darnold’s future would depend more on Milroe’s progression, than his own performance.

If Milroe doesn’t make the necessary progression, and Darnold continues to produce like he did in Minnesota, then Darnold gets a long-term deal here.

If Darnold reverts to Jets Darnold, and Milroe surprises, then we accelerate the transition.

If they both do well, then we have a nice dilemma on our hands.

Hard to know how Milroe is progressing, but Darnold is certainly looking like a franchise guy, if he can get the big-game monkey off his back.

I think the Milroe pick *IS* a waste of a pick.

I find it hard to believe the Hawks will do the same stupid sh*t that Minnesota did all for the "hope" that Milroe turns into a Franchise QB at the expense of one who could actually be one already.

Personally, I don't think JS will do Darnold dirty like that.

Sam is at the very least going to be the starting QB here for all 3 years of this current deal, imo.

And maybe he gets an extension before that, too? Who knows?

We'll see what happens these next 4+ weeks....

I think this here was the whole plan. Have Lock as the backup when we weren't EVER going to have Milroe be the B/U QB until he grows a little bit into that role. Then see if he can grow into the starting QB role over the following 1-2 years. If so great, if not then cut bait.

...or next year...or the year after that (if Darnold continues to play well for them)
