Is Anthony Richardson worth pick 5?

Seeing as they just blew their free agency wad for the next few years, they're going to need the picks to get enough players just to fill the roster.

I don't like this move, at all.
Teams never win super bowls with a QB under a major contract.

Prior to the last few weeks, I had only seen a few highlights from AR.

Then came the comments from JS about quarterbacks and the Seahawks never drafting that high during his tenure.

Assuming Young and Stroud would be off the board, I went back and watched a few Florida games in their entirety.

Then of course, AR crushed the combine. We interviewed him…etc.

Although not full developed (mechanics wise), He comes off as the QB with the highest ceiling and gives off vibes that JS and PC seem to like. We’ve drafted guys before that we’re seemingly selected too early or guys that had potential but could’ve easily been labeled as “projects”.

Defense is our #1 need of course. But, there are also a lot of Edges and DTs that are damn near equal performance wise.

I could see JS and PC addressing those needs further down into the draft.

If they draft like they did last year, we’ll be in a good place regardless. And…I’m not going to be shocked or disappointed if they don’t draft AR.

PC and JS have regained my trust draft wise from our last crop of rookies.

But….I do see them liking a 6’4”, 230+ lb QB that runs a 4.4 and has a 40+ inch vertical…let alone a cannon of an arm. I can see them looking at his accuracy issues as something their staff can remedy. Like taking a former WR at CB. Like taking an UDFA at WR and making him a star.

If Anderson, Carter are there and we snatch one, great. But…I won’t be shocked if they decide to grab a QB to develop him along with the rest of the youngsters we currently have and will find in this draft.

And since QB was mentioned by both, I’m thinking PC and JS think AR has the most potential…not year 1….but soon thereafter.
I watched NFL live today and the said Florida’s WR had lots of drops and that AR threw the ball away 19 times. I didn’t hear haw many drops/game they had, but they said if you flipped 2/game into catches, his comp % would have been 61%. They thought he could be great for the Hawks to groom behind Geno. I was hoping they could get Geno for 30 mil/year or less. Not sure that they can afford to have him sit 3 years, but I haven’t seen the breakdown of Gene’s contract to see what dead money would be after each year

It's actually the best case scenario. It shows they have a plan to solidify the team around a QB that has shown he can be good. Now they can focus the draft around the trenches and maybe a stud TE.

I'd be down with drafting Washington.

I'd pass on Richardson at 5. Why, 54% comp. rate that and I watched a couple games from last year and nonething jumped off the tape that he was capable of winning a superbowl. We're better off with Geno.

If you watch the workouts, he is impressive.

If you watched the games, he wasn't.

That's the problem. Could he still end up great? Sure, maybe, with time.

Is it likely? Not really.

PC and JS selected Russell Wilson, that worked out.
With Wilson on the team, PC and JS were rumored to like Josh Allen and Patrick Mahomes....they seem like pretty decent QBs.

If PC and JS like a QB in this draft, I'm not going to complain.

When it comes to evaluating QBs, CBs, and D-Line, I think the Hawks are great in evaluating talent......O-Line, not so much. I'll trust their process with the #5 pick.

I could make the argument that this makes it more likely they're targeting Richardson, not less. You'd want him to sit at least a year, absorb the game, and develop. It depends on Schneider's time horizon. If he's thinking long-term, this is a great play. Stay competitive next year and set the table for the future.

This. Although, Pete and John typically do the opposite of what I think they should do, so what do I know.

Richardson’s games with Florida is essentially most likely considered incomplete or not enough to determine how he will be in the NFL.

If Pete Carroll was able to turn Russell Wilson into a star, with all of Wilson’s shortcomings (punchline right here), Carroll can definitely do it with Richardson.

Richardson, may not be as developed a passer as Wilson was coming out of Wisconsin but Carroll is likely the best coach for Richardson because Carroll knows how to get the most out of a QB talents and most likely will only play to QBs talents.

I think Seattle would be doing a disservice to themselves if they did not even consider Richardson at 5.

Richardson, may be the most athletic QB to ever come into the NFL.

Though he may not be a great passer and understands QB XOs yet, that does not mean he cannot develop into one with Seattle.

You can also think of it like this, QB, is the only position where you essentially “sit them” for a year or two, and have them learn and watch, and then play them in a few years when they are “ready.”

If Seattle sticks with pick 5 and does not go QB, that player DT, DE, OL, etc. needs to perform immediately and they better be great right now otherwise the “bust” labels will appear immediately!

AR15 at pick 5 and sit him until Geno’s two years are up sounds like the best transition into a star QB (potentially) as I’ve ever seen one happen.

AR15 at pick 5 and Lukas Van Ness at pick 20 or the kid from Pitt would not be a bad two picks in round 1.

I agree with all the positive comments about Richardson. But, IF you’re trying to win NOW, you don’t take a QB with the 5th pick right after you signed a QB to a multi-year/millions of dollars deal.

I’d love to see us pick him up. I just don’t think it’s happening.

So..,the real question…do we think we’re ready next year? What does JS and PC think?

I personally don’t believe they have any intention on grabbing a QB within the first three rounds.

I’ve been wrong before 😅. And in this case, I hope I am because I would love to see that kid in a Hawks uniform.
