Russell's hamstring injury really sucks, he finally worked us down to the 5th pick in the draft. No way that Denver defense combined with a QB that can find a wide open receiver earns a draft slating lower than double digit. Enter Brett Rypien & maybe practice squader Josh Johnson, the fans are calling for them & I suspect that team would full steam back either. It was nice imagining our Donco pick being top 5 but not likely now, maybe if Russ rushes back early...?

Russ will start the game. ...probably a short leash. He did well in the first 1/2 v Chargers so there's a reasonable chance he'll play well again early. His best possible outcome is to go 10/11 and a lead again for the half, then sit for the 2nd half with his hamstring and shoulder wrapped on the sideline. That gives RCW some credibility but still allows the organization to play Ryp or JJ going forward.

Crazy ironic, but could well be what a lot of Bronco fans are now thinking: Second or third string QB to replace Russ? PLAYOFFS!!!

I'm not normally a conspiracy theorist, but Russ sure looked OK in the 3-4 2nd half scrambles where he ran for 1st downs and nice gains.

This sure smells like trying to engender some "injury" sympathy to blame for Wilson's terrible play. First it was flying to California for a super secret shoulder examination and treatment. Now it's a "significant hamstring" injury.

No limp at all last night. None.

I said this in the offseason - that when he falls on his face, he will lean on injuries as the reason, and ultimately his career will end with him claiming his body just can't do it anymore. It's his cover for the fact that the issue the entire time has been that he has a coaching staff and FO that kept hidden away the truth that his game was limited. He was a supremely talented player who was great at improvising in his own unique way, but struggled to play the position otherwise. Seattle (and PC) was the best thing that could have happened to him.

Russ missing time could make this situation even worse for the Broncos. If Rypien comes in, and the offense improves, will they bench a guy under contract for the next seven years? And if they don't, what message does that send to the locker room?

I'd bench him if Rypien is better and just look at RWs cap hit as money invested in the qb position. Winning with the guy that's making pennies against the 250mil invested at qb vs losing with the half of that pair that's making 245mil of it ... give me the Ws. At some point its only your pride that's hurt. It only becomes a bigger issue than it already is if Rypien lights it up and wants a substantial new contract himself after a year. Otherwise, it's the same money being spent.

Back to On topic, if I was Hackett I’d put my foot down and roll with a backup against the jets. Because then he has a chance at the minimum to show he’s a better coach (granted we don’t know) and this will kind of give more light into if the Offensive woes there are Wilson or Hackett or both.

I personally think it’s Wilson. The Denver offense looks like it did up here with Wilson. Missing/ignoring open players, unnecessary sacks, lots of 3 & outs, relying on deep Ball, clock mgmt breaking the huddle and lining up with 5 seconds left. Throwing away constantly. It just goes on and on

Sherm lives in California and they do the podcast from his house. Chances are his buddy is a 9ers fan and thinks of Sherm that way, while Sherman's best years (and therefore his heart) is with Seattle.

If Rypien just runs the plays and succeeds, this will spiral out of control fast. I see the problem exactly like what's happened with us.

Denver does not need mr unlimited, they need a QB that stays on script.

So if Russ plays with a bad hamstring and limited mobility, he's going to have to make quick reads from the pocket and get the ball out quickly. What could possibly go wrong?
