Didn't Sando come out ranking Geno in his own tier below all other starters and some backups based upon 10 year-old production?

It sure is easy being a writer or forum poster who can change the narrative so easily. Some of the audience accepts what is stated as gospel.

Watching the narratives change in the media is only outdone by the narrative shifts on .net.

He isnt playing bad at all. Actually he's playing pretty good, but lets not lose sight of who he really is.
LMAO!! and... who actually is Geno Smith? Can't wait to hear this.

I'll admit that i'm wrong when I actually am. If you think Geno Smith is going to be the answer, then you've already been fooled. Lets see him win against a decent team first before changing any strategies.
PFF has him as the #1 ranked QB in the NFL

He isnt, but why are you writing him off? And I didnt say not to draft a QB, but maybe our strategy changes if he keeps this up.

Its ok to admit you were wrong. Digging your hole deeper typically doesnt........end well :)
I agree with both of you, I am impressed by what I have seen. He was poor against the 49ers but has had three good games, against 2 poor teams and one average team. On the first 4 games of the season he has been a top 10 QB, probably at around 8. What matters is where he ends up. He he can perform like this for the rest of the season including against better opposition then he is the answer
Jebus Cryst Jeg, Geno is only 4 games into this season, and HE'S DOING BETTER than Russell Wilson is doing for the Donko's-->CREDIT WHERE CREDIT IS DUE, and IN FACT, he's right up there with the BEST Quarterbacks in the NFL...HELLO??
He hasn't really been a starting Quarterback for what, FIVE slack seasons?
The guy has EARNED & DESERVES A-L-L the kudos from us TWELVES...The man is "hands down" kicking it in the ass for the Seahawks.

The difference is where you seem to assume that if he has done this well after only four games and therefore must improve I think 4 games is a very small sample. One bad game against the Saints and he would probably immediatly go down to average starter.
He deserves al the the Kudos for what he has done and it is quite possible he will perform at this level all season in which case he IS the answer to QB but it is also possible that as we play stronger teams and as defences see more tape on him and suss him out we see a slide.

Geno may be the answer but it will take most of season to be reasonably certain.

Regarding "Kicking it in the ass" for the team I don't want him doing any Thomas Morstead impressions!

Look, I'm not on the same mentality as Fade. I am optimistic. But doesn't Detroit have the worst defense in the league? I mean, our offense did what a good offense should do against a bottom feeding defense, so that is a very good sign and we should be happy and optimistic about it. But I'm not about to get too excited. Just how I feel.

Yes, their defense is bad. (We might be the worst defense in the league though, so let's not put them down yet).

But 'our offense did what a good offense should do' is kind of a ridiculous undersell. 41 points (48 total and if our Kicker didn't hit one of the worst shanks in NFL history it'd have been 44 and 51) with zero punts and zero sacks is not what a 'good offense' should do against ANY NFL team.

I get it: Nobody wants to get their hopes up. I'm keeping myself jaded for the season looking forward because... dang, our defense is bad. But we don't have to pretend what our offense did yesterday wasn't amazing.

It was.

And saying it doesn't mean you have to anoint Geno as your personal lord and savior or that you need to start saving for Super Bowl tickets.

Like I said before there is room for optimism as long as there is improvement. Detroit is NOT a great team and I feel everybody should just take it in stride. It was one great game from the O. Until they do it consistently and do it against great Defenses, we should not think this O is there. Give credit where credit is due but don't think there isn't room for growth and don't think that our rookie tackles can't get torched vs a great D. all it showed was that Geno has great command of the O and that there is great potential for this O to be great. There is still a lot of work that needs to happen.

Just the way I see it

I agree completely. This is more or less what I was trying to say. We did what a "great" offense should do against a bad defense. It's a good sign. Don't get me wrong. I've just watched enough football to know that I need to see more before I get too stoked. It doesn't always take a great offense to do that against a bottom feeder.

Youre creating a strawman so you can hold on to some shred of dignity

Nobody is saying he is definitively THE ANSWER (whatever that means) nor is anyone saying we should absolutely change strategies.....but he is objectively better than you, I and most gave him credit for.

What we can say right now is that he COULD be a long term solution. Its a possibility if he keeps this up. Something we never would have dreamed of saying a month ago

What game has been a surprise though?
We just watched the Rams (a GREAT offense) struggle to move the ball against the Niners
Denver has a good D but we did enough to win
Seattle did what good offenses do to Atlanta and Detroit
Not sure why some imaginary jury is still out.
Any NFL team that can put 48 up and not punt in an entire game is good. No hedging. End of story

Don't get me wrong I am VERY optimistic about the Hawks Offense. I just think there is more work that needs to happen before this O reaches its potential.. They need to clean up the penalty's... the O line has to learn to play together more the rookie tackles need more reps as they are going to get better. the chemistry between Geno and the wide receivers is going to get even better, lets see what they do against the Saints on the road. I don't need to be convinced this team is good, I know they are I just don't think they are playing their best football yet that's all I'm saying...

Geno does seem to have been repeatedly crucified and continues to be from some. Perhaps you're onto something here.

The Seahawks offense did better against the Lions defense than the Lions' other three opponents did.
I'll put the results here, but instead of doing it in the order of the Lions' games, I'll do it in ascending apparent quality of the teams, which also happens to be ascending order of how well the offenses did against the Lions.

The Commanders are bad, but they have a QB who costs $28.3M on the cap this season. They put up 396 total yards and 27 points against the Lions.
The Vikings are considered a possible playoff team and have a QB who takes up $31.4M of the cap this season. They put up 416 yards and 28 points against the Lions.
The Eagles may be the best team in the NFC right now, and they have a QB on a rookie contract who is in the MVP discussion early in the season. They put up 455 yards of offense and 38 points (including one defensive TD) against the Lions.

Now let's compare that to what the Seahawks did against the Lions.
The Seahawks put up 555 total yards of offense and 48 points against the Lions (including one defensive TD), a full hundred yards and ten points more than the Eagles did.

So while the Lions are clearly a bad defensive team, the Seahawks' offense was much better against that bad defense than any of the Lions' other opponents have been so far.

As others have noted here, the Seahawks did not punt even once in the whole game and came close to scoring even more, but there was a missed FG.

For any NFL offense against any NFL defense, the Seahawks' offensive output from Sunday is a pretty amazing result. And for a team with a QB considered as bad as Smith was considered before the season started, and with two rookie offensive tackles and a new center, it's just an astounding result. I can honestly say that while I knew the Lions were not good defensively, I did not think the Seahawks would have 555 yards of offense and score 48 points.

I still think the Seahawks won't get to eight wins this season, but the offense in general and Smith in particular have been surprisingly good so far. And it looks like maybe Pete Carroll wasn't holding back the offense in the last few seasons.

He was poor against the 49ers but has had three good games,

But how poor was he against the Niners?

QB1 - 8-17 - 47% completed - 121 yards, 2 TD, 1 Int, 2 sacks, 85.7 QBR
QB2 - 24-30 - 80% completed - 197 yards 0 TD, 1 Int, 2 sacks 80.1 QBR
QB3 - 20-31 - 61% completed - 184 yards, 0 TD, 0 Int, 4 sacks, 75.8 QBR
QB4 - 32-48, 67% completed - 254 yards, 0 TD, 1 Int (pick 6!), 1 fumble lost, 7 sacks, 70.8 QBR

1 of those players looks much better than the others (hint, it's Geno) - and if not for an unfortunate ineligible man downfield penalty and also an opportunity to score in the redzone inexplicably given away to the RB on 2nd and 5, the stat line could have looked a lot better compared to every other QB who has played the Niners this year.

Geno was the #1 ranked QB in preseason by PFF (sure he only completed 23-36, but 7 of the 13 incompletions were dropped), and he is now the #1 ranked QB in the regular season. How many games will it take you to be convinced enough that 1 bad game doesn't change your opinion that he might actually be a good QB.

QB5 - 20-35 - 57% completed - 262 yards - 1 TD 1 Int 1 Sack 78.5 rating

That's Mahomes against the Colts, but he isn't suddenly an average starter is he.
