The 49ers would have beat the Seahawks without Russ. His mobility was key in helping avoid pass rush

I am confused how this is a topic.
If Matt Flynn was our QB, then we would have been a decent team with a terrible QB. And we would probably missed the playoffs.

We never would have made a SB.

How is this a topic? Just to acknowledge a great decision that Carroll made to let a great QB take the place of a QB that never played effectively really anywhere? (He didn't succeed anywhere else)

They still would have won the super bowl. You have to remember it was their defense that carried them. Wilson was not yet all pro level in his second year when we won it all.
pure fantasy.

I literally said the defense and Lynch were the reasons they won it. One of the very top defenses of all time. Defense could still singlehandedly win SB's back then. It did again two years later when the Broncos won it with a washed Manning

They would of been close. Closer then RW fans want to admit and less then RW haters want to admit.

Lynch became more lethal with Russ running the R/O. His stats jumped up as well. I think with a Matt Flynn they lose to SF in the NFC Title game and lose to the Packers the next yr.

Russ is HOF and Flynn is not but the defense was so elite it could make any QB get close to a chip.

The running game exploded in Pa

the running game exploded in large part because of Russ and Welshers you keep ignoring the 4th quarter success and multiple games Russ won on game winning drives. Statistically he had close to 4,000 yards, was the leading rushing QB, didn't turn the ball over, hit on the explosive play and had 30 touchdowns that year. He was already one of the best in the league at that point.

Soulish said it best, we don't make the SB without the defense, Lynch or Russ. All played a massive part.

I just think we all forget at times how good early Russ was. He was a monster early on.
I just want to thank you for putting a quote of me in your signature. It's an honor. I understand I'm kind of a big deal around here and that people are very reliant on my opinions, so it's good you can help to share them.

It's upsetting that a lot of the people here that are critical of Russ are putting forth some genuinely horrible justifications for it.

There are incredibly valid reasons to agree with the decision to move on from him. Making bad points about the 2012 zone read stuff isn't it. In fact, I absolutely love rookie Russ, and young Russ may be my favorite quarterback of all time.
On this point ^ I absolutely have to agree ^ other than a few brain-farts early on, he was still the best damned Franchise Quarterback the Seahawks had ever had.
Having said that, and seeing him gone, stings to beat hell, BUT, I believe was the right move for both he AND the Seahawks.
I DO NOT hate the guy, but I was getting tired as hell of the ME, ME, ME Russ.

Looks like I offended you, apologies. I thought you’d get a kick out of it but maybe not. I also didn’t realize you were being serious with the multiple SB’s takes? I thought you were trolling?

Lynch did help Wilson and Wilson helped Lynch. A ton of people claiming Wilson played little to no part in teams success is what I'm being critical of. Saying Wilsons running ability and being able to create an offense around that with the zone read that no one knew how to stop was in large part because of Wilson. You can't run it with Lynch and Flynn right?

That is "just the facts"

People can surely be critical of his shortcomings. I just think with those shortcomings he was in rarified air his first 1,2,3,5,10 etc years in the league with only a handful of guys.
>> I << was not one of the jokers who claimed that Flynn was as good, or hell, even CLOSE to being on Wilsons level.
Anyone not recognizing how much Marshawn Lynch's style of pounding the ball and how it HELPED Wilson through that transition early on? are prone to LYING TO THEMSELVES.....Wilson DID NOT do it all by his lonesome.
Another example of a player that does not get the kudos that it deserves, and EVEN WITH having Russell Wilson-->>WITHOUT the LAST DITCH EFFORT PLAY by Richard Sherman & "The Tip", the Seahawks don't get to the SB.

No one is saying Wilson did all by himself though, I said multiple times they helped each other. You’re the only one who’s actively trying to argue someone out of the equation. Are you arguing to just to argue?

Lynch jumped up a ton from the year before the zone read. If I remember correctly he want up .5 yards per carry which is huge for a running back. Lynch is one of my favorite all time Seahawks but it’s ok to admit Wilson made lynch even more dominant and what a resource for a young QB to have in Lynch as well. It was perfect for everyone.

On the other hand, Flynn probably doesn't lose the ball in a scramble fumble on the first play of the game. Just sayin'.
I can’t really argue with that since this is all speculation. However, in terms of probability, Flynn fumbling while being sacked by Aldon Smith is more likely than Flynn making that touchdown play. IMO

Flynn never plays 10 seasons straight. If he does, yes, it includes SB win/s and playoffs because he became good enough to earn the spot for 10 years running. The question dictates the answer regardless of who it is.

The list of 10 year starters that aren't SB winners is relatively short and all have multiple playoff wins. Marino, Tarkenton, Kelley, Rivers, Matt Ryan, Esiason, Fouts. If Matt Flynn turned out to be any of those guys, we're in pretty good shape. Put the LOB with any of those QBs and argue it's not a SB winner 10 years running.

"Jumped up a ton from the year before"??, sounds to me like it's YOU who is trying to downplay Lynch's explosiveness, did you watch that run against the Saints the year before???? it was that run that caused 'BEASTQUAKE'.
The RO by Russ garnered the most success because of Marshawn Lynch and his pounding style & Push the pile.
It was Lynch that gave the Seahawks Offense that 'Bust Your Balls Identity'
In the past 5 years, Defenses haven't really had to honor the Running attack like they did when the Beast was there.
Not just any RB demanded as much respect since he parted ways with the Seahawks either.

I still don’t know what you’re trying to argue. Lynch is an all time great. Everyone admits that. Doesn’t make your argument that Russ was an afterthought any better. So enjoy your weekend I’m done arguing about it

If Flynn had won the QB competition, things would have looked different. The QB - even a point guard QB in Pete's system - still has to have a certain "it" factor with the team. Leinart had that at USC and was brilliant at getting the ball to the right guy at the right time. Flynn was good at taking what the D gave him, but I think he lacked that factor, and that as much as anything is why Pete went with Russell instead. As Schneider said, Russ tilted the room. I don't believe Flynn could do that.

I dont get what argument you're making; those are hardly bad stats. I'm not even ripping on your boy Russ, which you have an unhealthy obsession with. I'm just saying I think Flynn would have done well with what he had around him. I'm not saying he would have been better than Russ.

I realize a lot of people just can't stand Russ, and that's fine. But when did Matt f'ing Flynn become Joe Montana?
Dude played 7 GAMES IN 7 YEARS.
Complimenting Flynn isnt bashing Russ. I'm not making the argument that he would have been better, but I think he would have done well with the lead role.

I believe that had PC gone with Flynn, he would have performed at an Andy Dalton level, i.e. 8 or 9 years of meh with no results to speak of(SB appearance highly unlikely). If Wilson was released and ended up on another team, my guess is 8 or 9 years of playoff appearances with 1, maybe 2 SBs.
