Fair! The way this is going, we won't have to try to tank.

Details:
- 1-year deal
- $500,000 guaranteed of $3.5-million
- Incentives up to an additional $3.5-million
Seems pretty team-friendly to me.
So we can still cut him and avoid this mistake?Details:

Actually, I think the opposite. This tells me they're not going for QB in the 1st, and maybe not in the 2d this year. I think they are going to let this play out and look to 2023 when the QB crop looks better and we have 2 firsts to play with - as in trade up or down as needed and pick. Use the big money this year to re-sign DK to a new deal to keep the receiver corps in good shape for whoever takes over at QB going forward.Man up and F’n earn it, boys. A big boy paycheck is out there for the taking. But this all point to a high QB pick. Not sure I’m in love with it.
I hope you are right. Build the foundation and add the sexy later.Actually, I think the opposite. This tells me they're not going for QB in the 1st, and maybe not in the 2d this year. JMO. YMMV.
Now, that is a breath of fresh air! With Russ, Pete wouldn't allow competition in QB position, not even draft a competitive QB for development.More likely that they create a competitive plan for QBs to push each other and grow together in building a 2022 offense.
I think we still should be counting the $26 million in dead money as quarterback guarantees since it eats up cap money. The cap is really the only reason we as fans should care about guaranteed monies, as the lower the cap available, the less we have to spend on quality players. There are no guarantees associated with the Drew Lock or Jacob Eason contracts. So .... $500K is the total in guarantees for the quarterback position. Accommodates a very flexible situation at QB for competition.
I like it!

Even the league knows Geno Smith isn't worth that much...that's the technicality. <scarcasm off>I wonder what the issue is that has the league refusing to approve this contract. Somehow I suspect it is a technicality of sorts.
you forgot the sarc tag. dude is terrible, like not even a decent backup terrible. He's in the bottom 30% of backups in the NFL.Glad we brought him back. He was WAY better than Russ last year. We would have made the playoffs if we had played him instead of Russ for the full season.
So many people feel as though being snarky about this is entertaining. Smith played decently and struggled against teams that had a good pass rush. Sounds pretty much the same to almost every other QB in the league. People acting like his contract is way too high, but it is only if he hits incentives. Are you worried that he hits those incentives and the team will be performing better than you expect? Is your being correct more important to you than your favorite team actually performing well?
The signing makes sense in that he will be the only one in the QB room that has worked with our offensive coordinator and can help speed up the other QBs learning curve. If he actually earns the seven million, it means he is playing well and we might win more games than we probably should.
