Both may not make the team, but just for fun, let's compare these two?

Geno showed that he wasn't terrible as a Waldron QB, he was improving before Wilson rushed back to stop his progress. Geno ain't Wilson, lack the elite arm and poise, but he seems to be a locker room favorite. Metcalf seems to like him? If Penny comes back or we somehow find a running game, could Geno be the game manager for a season or two?

Lock has higher pedigree than Geno, but can he be that game manager?

I'd much rather roll with Lock as the game manager than Smith. Smith Showed me nothing last year. The offense was dreadful and mainly inconsistent with him at the helm. He has a very limited upside.

The camp battle we’ve all been waiting for…

Honestly, I would rather do that than trade a pick for Baker.

Draft a QB like Carson Strong in the late 2nd or at 72 and roll the dice.

From what i've seen Lock is better but there's not a lot in it. In a fair fight Smith might prevail with the advantage of his time already spent in the Seahawks system. Smith isn't on the roster at this time so it's a moot point. Neither QB looks to be a potential top 24 QB. Teams normally have 4 QBs through preseason. Hard to believe Lock and Smith will be the top 2 going into camp.

Smith was ascending and likely would have won a couple of the games Russel lost when he came back too early. I thought Smith was doing a great job moving the chains and scoring enough to win. I don't see how Lock is an upgrade.

I feel LOCK will surprise all of us. Just work his ass off this spring. He's got something to prove!

Perhaps a more interesting comparison:

Matt Hasslebeck 2010 (12th year) - 14 starts, 59.91% completion, 3001 yards, 12 TD, 17 INT, 29 SCK, 73.2 RATE

Drew Lock 2020 (2nd year) - 13 starts, 57.34% completion, 2933 yards, 16 TD, 15 INT, 19 SCK, 75.4 RATE

It’s not strictly apples to apples: Drew was on a far better team in 2020 than Hass was in 2010. Both were in their first year of a new offensive system, but Drew had to learn over Zoom and was in just his second year in the NFL. So can we take anything from this? Maybe. Maybe not. I doubt Lock will ever make us forget Russ. But the idea that *maybe* he could reach Hasslebeck’s level (when Hass played better than he did in 2010) is intriguing.

I am starting to think that Lock could be a 7-9 win QB if we have decent defense and good running game.

Drew has the upside, but Geno can run this offense. We saw him getting better. He posted a 100 passer rating and 5 TD/1 INT. He was deceptively efficient, just inconsistent and holds the ball too long.

It's gotta come down to the camp competition if it's just them.

Geno has to be signed yet, he is a far better option on day one, day 125 we will see, but Geno was improving and getting better after a long time off, there is something to be said for muscle memory and when you are out of action and I mean game action it takes time to get back, he was getting it back and Wilson seen it, why he pushed to come back still not 100 percent.

Are you seriously suggesting Russ tried so hard to get back because he was afraid he would lose his job to Geno Smith? You can maybe say it was ego, I would attribute it to a desire to lead his team to wins however misplaced some might feel that to be, but fear of losing his job to Geno is silly non sense.

Point of the topic has nothing to do with Russ. Geno is miles ahead of where Lock is. We need to get Geno signed and see what happens in competition. While they're competing it would be wise to draft someone to swing in the wings and learn what they need to know to beat them both.

Agreed. Russell Wilson scared of losing his job to Geno is the most ridiculous thing I've seen posted on here. As you say - it's silly nonsense.

I wouldn’t be surprised if Russ has always been concerned with how “he” compared to other Seahawks QBs (including Tjack). He really cared about his public perception. Think about the times he should have missed games but powered through it. He never wanted anyone else to take those snaps. Hard to chop you down if there’s nothing to compare apples to apples against.

It sounds like they are willing to play hardball with Geno. They know that this is his only opportunity to compete for a starting spot and that his demand from other teams will be purely as a backup. They're willing to stand firm on a low offer and Pete's been doing a bit of media campaign pointing out what a shame it would be if Geno missed this opportunity.

I do like the idea of a real competition at the QB position for the first time since 2012. If it doesn't look like we're going to get Geno back in then we should consider one of the QBs who would be ready to compete right away with one of our picks in the second round; Kenny Pickett or Carson Strong. Personally, I'd rather re-sign Geno though and then take a flier on developing a QB like Desmond Ritter.

Only way this team is playoff competitive is if Mayfield gets cut and we sign him. Even then its a bit of a stretch. Geno is not capable of winning 10 games. I think we would win 6 or less with him at the helm. He is not the future of this team either, so why bother?

We would be better off going 3-14 than 6-11 as that would give us a shot at a capable starter in the draft next year. I'm good with Geno not even being on the team personally. Certainly not a priority signing.
My preference is to roll with Lock this year and see if he can figure it out (highly unlikely but at least he has potential something Geno does not have). If not we have a high pick next year to try and find a QB.

Are the current Hawks better than Browns of 2020 & 2021?
