The offense needs atleast an average run game before we move on from the qb. The last thing we need is another qb with potential who cant grow because our run games blows.

I dont think he played badly. I also dont think he played great.

The problem is, i don't see how one has many great games left in this offense in its current incarnation.

Unless Grubb evolves, we are peddling a flawed system.

I dont think he did anything to help his case for being re-signed. I honsetly dont think there will be much he can do to help that if things stay as they are.

Worst case scenario IMO, we let Geno walk and fool ourselves into thinking Howell can make better music out of this mess.

He doesnt have the cerebral game, so the only way he functions in a Grubb system is to run around like he did in Washington. I have zero interest in seeing that again.

So then the only other option is to pair Howell with another OC or get both new oc and qb, in which case we have hit the reset but twice in 4 years, and this time on the sude of the ball that SHOULD have been a strength had we found the right guy to run it.

Best case IMO, we extend Geno on another short term deal, give him a little raise, and load him up with incentives and a new OC in 2025.

If our OC and O Line werent a liability, we woukdnt be debating Geno.

But from Geno's perspective, i wouldnt take a bargain deal. I'd look for a better situation with a real OC and functional O line. To date, the situation in Seattle has been a win-win for both sides. Moving forward the Hawks benefit more for getting him at a bargain 'middle of the pack price' than he does for staying with a team that since he has been here, hasnt been able to establish a direction or identity on offense.

If i am Geno, i play out the deal and look elsewhere.

That level of nuance is wasted here
But its highly debatable and I know you don't like any criticism of Geno but he deserves some for that game. I just rewatched the play and agree with Brock on it, he cant and shouldn't of taken a 20 yard sack and had time to do literally anything else. Geno also misses Fant and after watching that play its a makeable pass for a veteran QB and he didnt make it. Geno wasn't terrible against the Jets and did a good job with ball security but he was indecisive at times and made a couple potentially big mistakes that ended up not costing us. He also was fine on the last drive which is a part of the discussion too to be fair.

Nuance is looking at it in totality and not just saying Geno sucks or Geno is great right?

Geno is going to make 30 million this year, you want to pay him more?

Honest question, do you think there's a single team out there who would pay him even 30 million a year? Other than stats, what has he really done to warrant a big contract?
Unless he goes on fire down the stretch and even then, no one is paying him 30 million.

I guess we'll see. I don't care either way, I just hope it's a different team than Seattle. I can't imagine anyone paying him 30, but who knows?

That's a really, really small contract for a quarterback in this current age. Pretty sure it's on pace to be bottom third of the league.

That's not to say anyone would. It'd be hard to defend based on statistics outside of his general winning record with us.

Fair enough. He's not worth 30 in my eyes. But I know it's the going rate for an average starter. That money could go towards the trenches, imo.
It's a great time to be a QB. Crazy the money that goes to average QB's, and there's a lot of them.

There was a similar chorus of folks who said he wouldnt or shouldnt get 20 mil before he signed here.

I think the folks who make financial decisions like this dont base them on the sunday broadcast tape (unless they're in Denver).

Geno's potential (and value) isnt being elevated by this team. Its being hindered. Thats pretty obvious when you've watched this team play over the last few years.

We will see. No reason to debate something that's entirely in the hands of others. In 4 months time we will know.

I'll gladly crow up if someone pays him 30 plus a year. I don't see it happening, but good for him if he gets it.

He had much better numbers then though and he's been very average since. I would bet a paycheck no one is paying him 30 million and while some of the situation is making it tough on him he's also making it tough on himself at times even if you don't see it. Again the line has improved and the defense has drastically improved, two issues that were cited as the reason why he is struggling. But if he goes on a tear down the stretch he could definitely make himself some money and I hope he does. I don't root against him I just try to be objective with him.

But I do agree its so far down the road that we can only wait and see and again I seriously hope he plays himself into a tough decision for the Seahawks.

If he finishes the year with 15 touchdowns and 15 picks while being a year older and even less willing to move around or run then that is probably the going rate though for someone his age. Like I said above though I hope he plays so well it makes life uncomfortable for the Seahawks because that means we are having a ton of success and I genuinely hope he earns himself a big payday I just don't see it happening. No one reasonable is rooting against him just like non one reasonable is rooting against Macdonald or the team in general. We should want all of them to succeed and I do.

What is your take on how Geno played yesterday?

Smith played somewhat on the “okay” side, he wasn’t bad, but he didn’t stand out enough to warrant this is a game, where you go back, watch the film, and it makes you want to extend Smith….no, at least not to me.

What do you guys think how Smith played?

Thoughts?

It was a cold weather game. Jets pass coverage was, for the most part, good. And yet, unlike Jet receivers, Seahawk receivers had good success catching a hard ball. Geno kept his bearing. In the end, he had a better outing than Aaron.
