Lucas can handle that responsibility.

Ahlers offers the potential of an interesting change up option.

That would add an additional entertainment factor.

The Niners tried That. They were right and Should have stayed the course.

They had Lance and Purdy At the end of camp. They Added another roster spot for Jimmy G, who Carried them into week 10 until injury. At that point Brock comes in and saves the game. They sign career journeyman Josh Johnson off the Broncs practice squad to play qb2 for the rest of the season.

Johnson was, technically, qb4. They then release their qb5, who was Eason, and fail to pick up any other option. Given the injury streak that resulted tn their qb3 being the starter, that was reckless.
Yeah I think we agree in part actually is what I'm saying, sort of, when anyone gets past qb2 their season plans have gone out the window to some extent and they are surviving and relying on their strengths. My point was, even with their highly touted roster and defense the 9ers couldn't pull it off. Even baltimore needed dilfer, who in his prime would still be a starter but of average quality. Behind Geno we have an average qb, last we saw, he might be better.. after that it doesn't matter that much imo, practice squad would be where I would be looking at qb3 and 4, try things, etc.

No problem with putting Ahiers On our ps should he not outcompete Lock. The fact that Horton is a udfa actually provides a growth experience for Lock as a potential understudy.

xfl San Antonio qb Jack Coan invited to rookie minicamp. Is being invited to rookie minicamp the same as being signed as a rookie?

We have now invited two Qbs to come For rookie minicamp In addition to Ahlers.

Whichever one wins will be someone that presents Drew Lock with a developmental opportunity to mentor.

We didn’t draft one, but thus remains a need in 1) training camp and preseason and 2) week by week.

Last year, the majority of nfl starters Missed at least a game, including all three of our divisional rivals. We would be ignoring a huge liability by not being proactive on this.

Addressing 1, we didn’t see Drew play but a handful of snaps in one preseason game a year ago. At this point, I would side with getting an experienced vet To compete and contrast with him. Men like Bridgewater, Rypien , Ryan are The top of what’s left on sportrac, and I bet all wouldnt sign here. My choice would be AJ McCArron over Sean Mannion based on Aj’s recent success in the xfl. He would at least be a realistic baseline On which to compare Drew to, just as the 9ers are utilizing Darnold to compete with Lance.

For 2, unlike Darnold, we don’t have to worry about having guaranteed any money to McCArron or Mannion. Jarrett G from Wa state is another option. We can release them Or whomever and choose among a Bunch of others who got released and are hoping to sign to practice squad with Little financial consequence. Rinse and repeat down the road as necessary.

Thoughts on the Guys we bring in?
I don't know who they will bring in but, I don't think they will use a roster spot for a 3rd string QB at least not at this point unless they find someone with an immense amount of talent. That's the way I see it, although, I could be wrong.

Im completely fine with having qb3 be on ps. But I think the Hawks would be well served by having Drew mentor Ahlers or whomever it is.

The last time Drew tried that, he got a whole qb room quarantined including himself, forcing a ps wide receiver to act as the starting qb. Drew needs more opportunities where he’s the mentor.
