I like that it is a 2 year deal (like it a lot)

It is an affordable year 2 AND we can cut him if it doesn't pan out. We need to avoid last years bad deals and all one year deals

If Cable were still around he’d be a perfect candidate to switch to an OG or Tackle

This place needs some new material in a horrible way :34853_doh:

Or....as bad as we need a new kicker who's aim doesn't reflect the way democrats lean.
Or....as bad as we need a new Oline that doesn't mimick Matadors.
Or....as bad as we need, aw forget it-this hurts too much

The colts are expected to use their #3 over all pick at this guys position because he wasn’t quite getting it done. Whoopty doo we are saved.

Seems like some folks have the wrong idea. He's ok as a pass rusher. I scouted him and knew he wasn't quite physical enough for a pure DE. He was a severe reach as a Leo in the draft, but he's become a fairly good LB in coverage.

This is our new SLB. Not Leo, although I'm sure he'll get a chance to compete as a 3rd down rusher on the outside.

Not unlike a Marcus Smith type reach except Mingo has learned to be a LB.

Great athlete, very good special teamer, has some experience under his belt, and $3M isn't a lot for this position.

He could play both SLB and LEO. He was surprisingly good in pass coverage last year.

With him and Dion Jordan we now have 2 of the first 3 Defensive Ends drafted in 2013....

This. Typical PC/JS pickup. Can do different things and comes cheap. Has a chance to prove himself. Like the signing overall.

A lot of ignorant posts in this thread, disappointing to see.

This is an excellent signing. If this were Bruce Irvin y'all would be doing cartwheels. Mingo is far better than Bruce at this point.

Not a bad signing. He couldn't be walking into a better reclamation environment. Playing next to Wags and KJ, being coached up by Ken Norton and Clint Hurtt...heck, I'm optimistic. Which is a rare thing these days.

Long arms and runs like a gazelle. Three forced fumbles last year. 1.55 10-yard split. 21 pressures on 132 pass rushing snaps.

I like that we are not going "cheap" at this position. We haven't had a guy like this at SLB/LEO since Bruce Irvin.

We obviously needed a SAM LB to replace Wilhoite and Mingo looks like an upgrade. Incentive laden contract with some upside. We'll see if it works out, but this is the sort of FA signing I'm okay with.

This signing could work as a SLB. We have been looking for someone to fill Irvine's role since he left in FA.

When you start to look at the potential for a redesigned D, there is starting to be the makings of their plan. But the difference is that if we sign Suh ( my hope) we would be stronger in our front seven than our 2012/2013 version, which would help our secondary. That may be the plan.

Personally, I am fine if that's the plan.

I think the team is going to move him back to DE full time like Dion Jordan. Mingo has been miscast as a 34 OLB his whole career. I feel that the Hawks want him to play DE full time as a pass rush specialist.

Perhaps Jordan's relative success last season has them thinking they can take talented young molds of clay and coach em up , on the defensive side of the ball at least.

Amongst everything that went wrong last season , it was a very encouraging season of identifying and developing young defensive talent - shaq, coleman, naz, jackson, jordan, jefferson all had encouraging seasons

This is a good point

Go back and look at 2017 draft. Ignore Malik and we got a lot of players from that draft. Carson should be back, Shaw and Naz have potential to be really really good but many others are still on the team. Hope it speaks to their strengths and not the teams weakness last year.

If Fant is good this year, Pocic developed, Brown and Britt plays well and we have a coach that can coach we can protect the QB and maybe with a decent draft class have a pretty good team with some low key but important signings like this one
