Importance of the Center position

Did the lack of a stud Center impact Seahawks playoff and suprBowl chances?

  • Yes, definitely an underrated cause after Unger was traded.

  • Maybe, but Seahawks had good enough players so it shouldn’t have mattered.

  • Nope, the Center position is easy to replace and it doesn’t matter.

I didn't see Geno getting killed and running all over the place
He took less sacks and played all 18 unlike #3 who took 55?
In 3 less games?

Because you refuse to see it. Geno was sacked 46 times last season.

If he was so worried about it why did he refuse to throw checkdowns for most of his career?

Seems like an easy way to not get hit.

I can only assume its because he had to try and make things happen in order for the team to have a chance at winning due to poor game day planning and coaching.

Hard to fully judge that line. Solari’s last year here. Pocic, Duane Brown, Lewis and Brandon Shell all dealt with injuries. Lewis was transitioning to LG, and wasn’t nearly as good or comfortable looking.

Kyle Fuller played some center, that line had The Great Cedric Ogbuehi, another former bust that didn’t do squat here. Hell, rookie Jack Curhan looked like stud compared to the trash that was on the field. No QB would have done well once the patches and injuries started to pile up.

Its very important. For years all I heard was how good Pocic was and how his year in Cleveland proved it. Regardless of his good year with the Browns, the guy was adsolute dog crap in Seattle.
Maybe he finally figured out how to work out properly to get stronger, or simply fit Cleveland's scheme, plus had better guards on each side? Maybe got better coaching on technique and got some mentoring that improved his approach in watching film and anticipating/neutralizing opponents' best moves?

I know jack about evaluating Centers aside from it's bad when they get immediately bull-rushed into the QB or allow immediate penetration vs. the run. It just seems the light bulb went on for Pocic and maybe the change of scenery and jolt of reality of the business side of the NFL made him take things more seriously and be more focused in Cleveland. There's also the Nick Chubb at RB factor, where Chubb's abilities make his OL grade better. Probably a combination of things.

Happy for Pocic and sad the Hawks didn't get the benefit of his best years.

And yet other qb’s like TB and AR use the checkdowns and throw the ball away and win games. 🤷🏿‍♂️

And they werent handicapped by a philosophy and scheme that always wanted kept the games close. How people choose to forget all the 4th quarter heroics from #3 over the years is beyond me.

When the defense fell off he fizzled in the playoffs. He isn’t able to carry a team like some qb’s.

PC mentioned several times over the years that RW needed to get rid of the ball quicker.

Saying he was ruined by the Seahawks lets him off the hook. He was terrible in Denver with a team he said he didn’t have to carry?

I guess we’ll see if SP is able to get the best out of him?

Geno moving in and making the offense look better at a fraction of the cost is proof that PC knows what he’s doing.

All that is well and good. The fact still remains that Geno was sacked 46 times last season which is still on par with how many sacks Russ took during a season while he was with the Seahawks.

Always wanted to keep games close?! Lol...another false narrative that gets pushed. And when did this philosophy start hmm? How you are forgetting all the teams that got crushed in the early years of the LOB is beyond me.

Yeah, with two rookie tackles in a division with Watt and Bosa.

Did Geno get gun shy and start ducking into sacks?

Also the defense was so bad that we had to sling it more. The sack numbers don’t mean much without context.

Sure looks like he did on a few of those. Here are a few examples -

Geno is like a statue and doesn't even move 2 feet out of the pocket. Furthermore, he also holds the ball too long. I didn't see many quick throws on those sacks. On some, he had lots of time to throw it away too.

Who gives a rats ass about how many sacks RW took last year. He was on the Broncos. His play had zero impact on what the Seahawks did.

In Russ’ defense, he was playing in a new system with a rookie head coach. Plus his #1 WR and RB were injured early (out for the season).

In order to carry a Pete Carroll team the QB has to almost play flawless, HOF caliber ball. I doubt TB or AR's would have been more successful than RW with their lack of mobility.

Smith played as well as he can play and the team still was only 1 game over .500. When a Geno Smith lead team under Pete Carroll wins at least one post season game, get back to me.

Your arguments fell flat when RW tanked with Denver and the Seahawks made the playoffs while they try to rebuild and dump salary.

Get back to me when RW wins anything in Denver.
