Wish we didn't get Ziggy with it

Hindsight is 20/20 but wish we didn't sign Ziggy knowing Clowney would be acquired. Still hurt and out today, I have a feeling he will not have nearly the impact his contract pays. Can't fault them though for doing what they could at the time to get a pass rusher. We'll see.

My prediction: he'll play some time about week 5 or 6, get hurt and be out til near the end of the regular season, get hurt again week 16 or 17 and miss the playoffs.

Please feel free to serve the crow if I'm wrong.

I feel like his contract is mostly incentives on playing time, he was only questionable for today's game but it was announced he'll be ready for next week's game 100%, and we're going to need him against the Saints.

They Hawks knew what they were getting when they signed him . IMO ...getting Clowney and then Reed coming back in a month the Hawks may be able to get by without him at all this season .

I’ll revisit this thread in November, and then again in January 8)

Too soon to have buyers remorse. Let him get healthy first, then let’s talk.

I think he is ready and this is just Pete being overly cautious with injuries, as usual. I think the only reason Pete is taking an extra week is because we’re playing an AFC team. Ziggy will play next week.

If his contract is as someone else mentioned predicated on playing time, I don't think he or his agent would let the coaching staff keep him out if he were healthy.

It's a one-year cap hit for just under $8 million.

What would be done with that money that would be a noticeably higher probability and value? If they didn't do something major because of it, okay that sucks. But otherwise, what's the big deal? He's gone after the year is over if he can't stay on the field.

I find it odd he was a full participant the last 2 practices this week and a full participant twice last week as well IIRC. Normally if a guy is a FP the last 2 sessions, he plays. Rather unusual.

I would rather him take a cautionary week off against the Steelers, then clawing and scratching at the door against the Saints. We're going to need him more that game than we will this one.

If he helps us get to and win the Super Bowl, he was worth it. At this point he is just a spectator.

As for buyers remorse, the team knew what it was getting when they signed him. I seriously doubt he will be here next year with Clowney and Collier our probable DE's going forward. Of course, we do have to sign Clowney along with Reed and possibly Jefferson if the price is right.

We will want him down the stretch. It's just some cap space, with no long term strings attached. You can never have too many pass rushers, and if this team is in a position to make a run, his contract is totally worth the potential value he would provide.

It is abundantly clear that we need one other really strong pass rusher. With Ziggy and Reed we will have that even if there are injuries.

Ziggy was signed when we knew that it was highly likely that he would miss games to start the season

Seems like this is pretty standard fare with Pete in regards to injuries. I feel like, at this time, this is nothing to see here material.

Like Maelstrom says, you can never have too many pass rushers. If we had "one more" pass rusher when Cliff Avril went down in SB 49 (concussion IIRC), we'd have two Lombardis in the trophy case.

Those pass rushers are especially important in playoff games, and especially valuable in crunch time.

If Ziggy plays in only 2 regular season games, but plays like gangbusters in all playoff games, he's totally worth it.

We are 2-0 so I am fine with him sitting the first two games to get healthy. Hopefully he gets on the field when we need him.
