He would not got the first down with a 'give er up' feet first slide. In a risk vs reward situation, risk won this battle.
Yup, he's not picking up the 1st down with a slide.

& just think, there are so many posters on this board that think Tyler Lockett should do that every catch of every game for a meaningless extra yard.

I hope he’s able to immediately recover and is able to play out the rest of the year. After all so far the team will get the 2nd and 34th picks in the draft. We need him to keep up the good work.
Not to nitpick but rather to share info that some are not aware of or may have forgotten, there's only 31 picks in the 1st round next year because MIA forfeited theirs due to tampering with Brady and Sean Payton, and/or their agents.

So, the Donkey's 2nd round pick could well be #33 overall.

Extremely juvenile, yet par for the course. Be a lot better, grow up. I wouldn't wish this on Cam Newton or Aaron Rodgers. Getting nearly knocked out on the field is funny? It's not funny for ANY player.

Lot's of childish folks on this board. What happened to this place or is this just a microcosm of the world we live in today?

People are obsessed with a former QB and just can't let it go and/or even just accept that the Hawks won the trade by a landslide. Now, they think it's funny when he's hurt.
JS should be investigated for robbery, one of the all time fleecings in NFL history. Just keep losing Denver.

That whole play trflrcts Wilson’s all or nothing thinking. Either He’s a scared little rabbit or he plays hero ball. It’s like there’s no in between with him.

In between would have been being aware that this monster truck was barreling in on you imminently. Slide feet first and that injury was less likely to happen.

I hope he's ok, I don't want to see any player get hurt. He shouldn't have dived head first like that though, he normally slides feet first and doesn't take chances like that but I think he wanted to win so bad he took a chance there and landed on his face.
To me it looked like he had the TD in his sights and thought he was going to just blaze in
I don't think he saw the two flying at him which drove him to faceplant into the ground.

Another part of this is that the other KC player (not Clark) grabbed Russell's right foot at just the wrong moment where it put him out of balance and flying to the ground without use of that right leg/knee/torso to help spread out/cushion the landing impact. Then the landing was a side-impact hit to the head, which was a classic concussion strike, doesn't look so wicked compared to some frontal impact that don't result in concussions, but there is something about the side impact where the brain is more vulnerable.

My first thought was broken collarbone, or shoulder injury, what with Clark landing on him, but it quickly became clear that Russell could move his arms normally. I recall Aaron Rodgers breaking a collarbone, IIRC in 2017, on a play that inspired (IMO) adjustments to roughing-the-passer rules such that a DL landing on a QB with his body weight is now an automatic flag, and it is the pass-rusher's obligation to avoid landing that way during a sack or other hit.

Concussion result is both better and worse at the same time for Russell. Better--he might recover quickly; Worse--persistent concussion could be a career-ender, like what we saw with Steve Young. We really don't know how many mini-concussions Russell suffered in his Seahawks career, but we did see him take some wicked shots over his career.

He should sit. I don’t care if he’s cleared. Err on the side of caution here. They’re already out of playoff contention, so there’s no point in risking his health.

He won’t tho. You know it with how the Cards are playing.

I for one, have been very critical of Russel Willson this year. When posting, I haven't even referred to him by name and instead called him #3 or @DangerPuss...I guess I felt "burned".

But, in this play he did exactly what we have been criticizing him for not doing (even wearing the arm band)...

He was pretty tough in that play and I will be shutting my mouth going forward. He won't want to sit and will come back as soon as possible.

Although he is still the weird "Mr. Unlimited" and "Dangerwich guy", I guess he has won back my "Mr. Very-Limited" support...I hope he has a fast recovery and goes on to enjoy a long and successful career.

Go Hawks...

Great. Now I'm gonna have to double up on my criticism of him to make up for yours.

My high school football coach would have strongly encouraged you to fight for as much yardage as you reasonably can (while holding on to the football for dear life). Not just go down like a sack of potatoes at the first sign of contact. High school! Fundamentals! In fact, you may have had to run up and down the hill for 30 minutes or an hour if you tried that crap one too many times. And I can only imagine the razzing from a lot of the other guys on the team if you intentionally ducked down or fell down to avoid contact a lot.

If he wants to play so be it, but after that whole Tua concusion scenario, wonder if the league might crack down a bit more on giving guys some time.
They probably should IMO, Russ looked out of it pretty hard, its a rough game.

Well Id rather Lockett make clutch catches and stay healthy. This is the nfl and not highschool. The collisions are much more brutal.
