Where is Kam Chancellor?

Look, I like Kam for what he has done for this team over the years but is it me or is he virtually non existent this year? I do not remember seeing him on even one big play this year or making one noteworthy stop. It may be one of those where "you only notice him if he's not in there" situations as when he held out recently, but I'm just curious what has he done for this team this year? Thoughts?

I'm surprised at that as he's been quite anonymous. I was inclined to agree with OP.

Who will often find him running into a wall of blockers to set the edge in the run game. But he hasn't had many splash plays this year.

To make a splash you have to be in the water, to many players have re-watched the 49er game and the Super Bowl replays and don't go near Kams pond.

He was awesome against the Giants. He was one of the main reasons the Giants couldn't run on the Seahawks. He's doing what is asked of him. He's a leader on defense.

I don't worry too much about splash plays and getting their name called on TV. Those things tend to rotate around from player to player as the season goes along. Even DBs sometime come across like OL, when they don't mention your name it's a good thing. Kam does a lot of things, some of which don't necessarily get him a lot of public props, but he does his job, game after game. Kam never leaves a game with a clean jersey, you can be sure.

And is it possible that because of Kam's presence in the middle and the big hits he lays, OC's have changed their game-plan just a bit? I have no proof, but I can't help but wonder if receivers against the Hawks fear the short crossing patterns for fear of being Kamtracked into tomorrow...

Schematically, Chancellor and Thomas are being used a bit differently this year. It's part of the reason Thomas has so many more splash plays this year. I think Chancellor has lost half a step, and they don't always need Thomas's speed over the top with the way Griffin has performed. That frees the defense to use Thomas's speed in other ways, and fill in some of the free safety aspects with the slower Chancellor.

Good point, BSD. I wonder how Chancellor would fare at OLB. I think he could be a good there. He's very strong against run and can cover TE/RB. Probably could be a decent pass rusher too. It might something they try when Shead is back. They could play Shead at safety along with ET with Chancellor being a part of the front 7.

That was Hopkins. And he took a poor angle. Getting caught in the open field will do that at times.

When you're flying up to contain a mistake, you don't always end up making the play.

I find it interesting that he didn't feel the need to avoid Sherman. Hopkins won some of those balls, but some of those throws were ridiculous with Sherm in great position. One was a fairly blatant push off.

Hopkins might be the best receiver in the league right now. Look what he's done without a consistent QB; and now he has one. He's gonna win some of those against anybody; maybe 2/3 anybodies.

The Hopkins/ Sherman battle was an epic battle for the ages. Both sides got theirs. Pretty much a draw. Woefully under-reported and appreciated by the media in light of their love for the new "it kid" QB. A shame really, it was two Titans going at it, and it was beautiful.
