Well, if Abe isn't able to play much this season, do we start looking for a new replacement? No disrespect intended to Abe, but next man up. I think if he's not ready to go by end of the season, it's fair enough to think it's time to move on. Just laying my thoughts out on the table.

"He's a bust right? And JS should find new work?"

What are the qualifying factors for these kind of statements. We've had players contribute more (or just as much) on the field get thrown to the wolves, but it's all love for Abe. I'm just curious why he gets a pass???

As long as the 90% doesn't go to 70% the next week and then 50% and so on, then sure. I have seen very little to give me hope with Abe's situation. Really sad to see.
That's 90% of what he used to be.
Hopefully he uses a brace for further injury and just adapts to his new capability. I'm not writing him off.

At this point could they not shut him down completely, let him go on medical tour, have him work on trying to switch to an interior position that requires less movement like OC. And not intelligent in league bylaws but if he doesn’t accrue a season this year that would make him an RFA after 2025?

I'd take 90%, I'm just worried he won't hold up. Not writing him off either since it sounded like JS was confident in the game plan to get him back. We'll see.

Thank you. I was going to post almost exactly this. This place just chooses their favorites and enjoy making fun of the ones that aren't.

I am curious about his condition. It sure seems to me that his last injury exposed a more chronic condition with his knee(s). And if so, was this the first time anyone knew about it? Even him?

There's too much mystery about this "injury", and even with Lucas himself. I can't remember hearing him talk about his injury and rehab. I think perhaps these things play a bit into what you're talking about. It's perhaps easier to view him as a victim and the organization as being blind-sided by something they couldn't have known or seen coming.

I don't know.

Great response, well said.

That's where my head is at with him as well. It's just odd how we choose who gets dumped on and who gets a pass. Maybe we should stop throwing people under the bus, life happens and some times it sucks, lol.

It would be interesting to comprise a list of notable players who posters think get more of a free pass, and a list of those who don't. And then speculate as to why.

Russ certainly did, until he didn’t. I was guilty as charged.

Honestly, one of my favorite hawks of all time, Bobby Wagner got a free pass last year until towards the end of the season.

I can’t think of anybody who gets a free pass on our current roster. We have players performing with top 10 stats that people criticize.

Sadly, if it's a degenerative condition he may never be back to his former playing condition, as I referenced Ballard and Otto played thru so many injuries to knees using pain killers and injections. Otto after he retired had both legs amputated, Ballard could hardly walk period but managed to play on Sundays. He retired to not destroy his knees permanently and even was able to go into law enforcement for a time after.

Abe Lucas gets a pass from me because...
1) He had legit NFL talent, as a tackle even, and good tackles don't grow on trees
2) He had at least one good season, where he exceeded draft slot expectations (IIRC)
3) There's hope for him to come back, possibly at the same level of impact
4) He's on a rookie contract, not eating massive salary cap
5) As far as I know, he's doing everything he can to come back, without knowing any details
6) The team seems to have a plan for his recovery and return
7) The issue seems to be no fault of his own, e.g., not a Malik McDowell thing
8) As far as I know, he's a good citizen, solid dude, nothing here involves character issues (e.g. Albert Haynesworth)

OK, that about covers it!

Now CJ Prosise, Dee Eskridge, the list might be a little different, but Abe Lucas has a pass from me for now. Even if/when that pass is revoked, it will probably be because the team writes off the possibility for return, and he'll get a "medical retirement free pass" from me.

Maybe because he was on his way to being a solid piece of the offensive line for the foreseeable future. Injuries happen.

Nobody blames Curt Warner for blowing out his knee way too early.

That's a great comp, the Curt Warner knee injury! He still had a 1,000 yard season after returning, IIRC, but he wasn't quite the same with that superhuman quickness. Pre-knee Curt Warner was truly a treat to watch. Got nothin' but love for THE Original Curt Warner.

(The other Warner, Kurt, greatness also, but damn, why did he have to steal the original's name, just spelling it differently?)

There's Curt Warner ¹

Then there's "Kurt with a K"

Pete let the word ‘chronic’ accidentally slip last season. Schneider must be already planning for Lucas’ replacement. No one gets past a chronic situation.

It sucks for Lucas, but it is what it is. I wish him nothing but good luck.
