I haven't watched the replays but that last play I heard fell on Abe as well as Darnold. Was this just a mishap at the worst possible timing or did Abe not play to expectations our first game? Can anyone shed some light here? 🤔

Abe Lucas is good. Not Bosa good, but good. Bosa got a good push like players of his caliber can do. Bosa gets paid to make plays. He made a play.
So he got beat by a very good player. I was reading somewhere Abe had basically whiffed the play. I can accept if he got beat by Bosa..most would. Ok..thanks!

Lucas got bull-rushed right back into Darnold by Bosa. Bosa's one of the best pass rushers in the league. I would *think* losing out on that kind of a pass rush was a technique thing, not getting set/balanced right, but I don't know.

Not whiffed, really. Bosa just bull rushed him and shoved him into the QB's arm as it was raising for the throw.

TBH, I think the rest of the pocket was collapsing as well, or Darnold might have stepped to his left to get more room.

It's a team game. Fans like to pick out individual players and find fault, but it doesn't always work that way.

Exactly, it's that simple. That was the only sack of the entire game for Santa Clara.
The offense had several chances to score more points. Reek also peed down his leg. Team loss, not just one play.

It was mostly on Lucas but you could argue Darnold had plenty of room to step up. I'm sure he didn't expect Lucas to get destroyed immediately off the snap though

For sure. He's really their own true pass rush threat. They should know this already, imo.

Is that really what happened? I don’t have a stop watch on it, but my impression was that Darnold held the ball more than 2.5 seconds.

That play is not on Darnold, at all. AGAIN.........Bosa.....made.....a......great.......play.
Totally agree. There is no way to discredit Darnold on that play except possibly for a throwing motion that causes the ball to drop below hip level. But I think getting hit by Lucas is what made that happen.
Credit Bosa and double team him next time.

Looked like it was maybe 2.5 seconds but not any longer

Bosa just did Bosa things. He was shut out all game. He's just an elite defender. Abe got pushed back, it happens. Derrick Hall did the same thing to Trent Williams, the best in the game. Trent Williams got beat a lot more by our "inferior" pass rush when compared to how many times Bosa beat our O line.

It just happens, great play by Bosa.

I read somewhere or heard on the broadcast that he had almost 2.5 secs to make a throw so good on the online minus that play but what was kk thinking
They showed in prep season they were able to run the plays but the calls were woosified

I'd like to think that going forward, Sam will step up in the pocket (at least take a step forward) even when there is no one near him (just in case) AND then try to throw the football.

Seems pretty stupid to not have a TE over there to help with Bosa of all people.
IN a critical moment of the game, too.

That's a coaching failure moreso than Abe failing.

The Coaches should've seen this coming based on what happened here earlier :
