I would assume because a 5 hour flight is less tiresome then a week on the road in hotels. I don't know about you, but even relaxing at a hotel is tiresome for me because it is unfamiliar, bed is too hard/soft, its kind of cramped and your family is far away.

Never even considered this, thanks for bringing it up! I've lived in a hotel for over a week and I can relate, it isn't comfortable!
